Hey! Its not too early to start working for next season and many seasons to come. Not working like at work[8D], but working toward securing hunting priviledges for new ground for the '07 season. I've been getting a little lax the last few years and keeping what I already have to hunt is not getting easier. One of my favorite areas is practically ruined due to inexperienced hunters and ATV's, so much so that I doubt I will spend another day in that area this season. I am also dealing with what I am positive is a poacher in another smaller area(.223 kind), but as of yet cannot provide proof. The topper of all is a great area in the river bottoms has been bought by a paper company and though I still have permission for access to the land, they have posted it heavily and I just now got their address and phone number. Thats priority 1.........work toward securing hunting priviledges on that particular land, because I sure miss hunting it. Its always a potential big buck area, and in fact I know a monster buck has taken up refuge there. Priority 2, make sure those who do let me hunt now know how much I appreciate it. Priority 3, get as much info on lands that look to be hunted little or none at all. Find out who landowners are: names, address, phone numbers. Politely introduce myself in person, and after hopefully gaining some trust inquire about bowhunting their land next season, maybe even getting a little late season hunting in this year . Most likely I will be turned down in most cases, but I am confident that I can gain a few new places to hunt.
Remember, its never too early for next season.

Sounds like a plan there Coug. It's always tough when money talks like it does these days. Luckily I can hunt a few private spots and lots of decent public grund that doesnt get too much pressure.e

Good advice, but it isn't too early to do some scouting as well. My season is done till next year so today I got out and walked around looking at new sign in the area and just making mental notes on what is doing on in the area, this IMO is much more useful information than scouting in the summer!

Coug,
Archery season ended on Saturday, rifle season comes in from Nov. 28th till Dec. 10th and late archery runs from Dec. 26th till Jan 14th. Taking your bow out during rifle season is almost a joke, its hard to get a deer in to range when there is an orange army tromping through the woods. Late archery is probablly about the biggest challenge you can get, the deer have been chased by hundreds of guys and they are so spooked that they have gone nocturnal!
