What was your first?
What was your first kill with a bow, and what was your set up.
For me, the first small animal was rabbits and fish shot with a ben person 50lb recurve. It was in 1979. My first big animal was a doe with my 62lb 1978 herters recurve with bear fixed two blade broadhead. The old glue on type. I shot her in 1983. I shot a hog two weeks ago with that same bow. Here is the old girl. I refinished her last year, but she is still a shooter. I wish I had that old pearson. My brother lost it back in 1986. Im still made about it. My first compound kill was in 1986 with a black bear. The loudest bow you will ever shoot. We called it the cricket. You had to shoot def deer with it.:D ![]() |

My firstkill with a bowwasa button buck, double lung, 10yds, he ran 50yds. Shot him in 1995 was a junior in high school. Shot him with a 1993 PSE Polaris Express...still one of the best tasting deer i ever ate.

RE: What was your first?
My very first kill was a grey squirrel, shot in the head at 30 yards w/ an old XI Legend. It was a luck shot, no doubt. Shoot, at that point in my "career" I hadn't even taken a deer w/ a bow......Hmmm....glad I've rectified that.

RE: What was your first?
1996, I had just turned 16 when I shot a small doe at 15 yards, double-lunged her and she only made it 50 yards before piling up.
If only they were all that easy! :D |
RE: What was your first?
First was a doe last year, 35 yard spine shot, next day shot another doe as she was sniffing the gut pile! Double lung, she ran 25 yards. Then killed my first bow buck 4 weeks later. What a way to start!!! All were shot with a Bear Whitetail II bow. They were all shot in Maryland before someone gets excited about the number of doe I shot! LOL

RE: What was your first?
My first kill with a bow was a 6 point buck last year in the first 2 hrs of my second season at 30 yards with my 35# seneca.

RE: What was your first?
We actually used to go into our neighbors trees/brush and cut us down a nice sized branch and make our own bows. Then we made arrows out of dowels and just sharpened the ends on the concrete. I killed a few rabbits with that setup. It was pretty fun. They only lasted about a week maybe more depending on how far you pulled them back and how long you held them.

RE: What was your first?
A boar hog last year. 65#. It was a double lung pass through. I was still hunting with an Alpine Impact X-treme. That is now my wifes bow. I changed the limbs from 60-70# to 40-50#. I have since killed 3 deer and another dozen hogs and 1 'yote. I was 44 years old at the time I made my 1st bow kill so, yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks!

RE: What was your first?
1990, I was 17 years old killed an 8 pt. buck that was harassing a good friend of mines pet does. Used a Martin Lynx buck scored 138 P&Y. From that moment I was addicted, never gun hunted for deer again.

Have you considered refinishing it? I refinished my 1978 Herters last year and it came out great. I carefully removed the old finish with sand paper, being real careful not to get into the laminate, and resprayed it with Minwax helmans laquire. It made a world of difference. Ive hunted with that bow most of this season. |
RE: What was your first?
I shot this spike last year to be my first bowkill deer. I used my Bowtech Mightymite. Before this one I took 2 hogs in Texas. Since then i have taken 2 more deer with it.

RE: What was your first?
My first bow kill was this year. I killed a 150 pound doe. I shot it at 20 yards with my Browning Rage One set at 60 pounds and I was using Thunderhead broadheads. I double lunged her and she went like 80 yards and died in minutes. She dropped no blood and I just went to where I last saw her.

RE: What was your first?
Here's my first post about my first kill. Been bowhunting for 6 years and it took3 years of bowhuntingto shot a spike at 35 yards, double lung and liver (quartering away). This was also my first year of deer camp.

RE: What was your first?
My first was a doe 4-5 years ago with an old Pearson Buckmaster (bushmaster) not sure on the name. I wasn't into bowhunting that much back then.
I'm in love now though. I have taken 5 deer with a bow in my hunting career so far. |

RE: What was your first?
I think it was '92. A five point with an old Whitetail II an older gentleman had loaned me to see if archery would interest me. I returned the bow to him after killing that deer and went and ordered my own bow. That Whitetail II was a nightmare to tune and I couldn't get it to group better than 6" but it got the job done.
