RE: So freaking mad!!!.....HELP!!!!
This happened to me but during rifle season. I shot at a nice eight point buck over two hundred yards away. I found blood where i shot him and he actually went and lay down. there was a huge blood spot there. But i guess when we went up there, we scared him off and he ran like crazy. We could not find anymore blood. Later the next morning, our friend who owns the land next to us was walking from his stand and found the deer i shot. It was over a mile away from where i shot it.
So more than likely he is out there. |
RE: So freaking mad!!!.....HELP!!!!
that sounds like a shoulder hit to me with enough penetration for the arrow to stay while smoking trees on the way through. Sounds like an opposite shoulder hit to me, but if it was, the deer would be dead within 150 yds cause you would have gotten lungs/heart. So there's just about no way that's the case. Could you tell that well about your hit? I know it's hard when you're excited, i'm the same way. You may have hit shoulder and that's it. If it sounded like you hit a 2x4 you probably got shoulder. And if there's no blood and he's not within 200 yds you didn't penetrate the chest cavity and he's probably alright. That's my take on it, of course it's all speculation cause I wasn't there. But those r my thoughts.

RE: So freaking mad!!!.....HELP!!!!
Find somebody with a good bird dog. I used my lab last year to track a buck after a shot that hit a branch and hit back too far. I have to tell ya, I thought this deer was dead after an hour with all the piles of blood I found. I saw him bed down not 40 yards from where I shot him so I backed out for an hour. When I went back out there and he wasn't there. I started trailing him and looked up to see him 40 more yards away looking at me. He got up and started walking away slowly. He was really hurting so I backed out again and waited until the evening. I wasted that night when I should have gotten my dog then. It rained that night and all sign was gone the next morning. Fortunatly I had gathered some of the bloody leaves and put them in a zip lock bag. The next day we trailed this deer with my dog over 1/4 mile just on this scent from the bag. We came to a huge open field of 1000 acres of waist tall thick grass with deer trails everywhere. I thought it was a lost cause. When my dog got in the field she imeadiatly made a left turn and went not 20 yards from us and froze in her tracks. She was looking to the right in the weeds. I walked over thinging I would jump up a bird or something and there he was. I have to say we probably would never have found him if it wasn't for my dog. Its wortha try.
