So freaking mad!!!.....HELP!!!!

OK, here's the story(I'll try to keep it short). I went out this Saturday and late in the afternoon I saw a doe being followed closely by decent buck. Eventually they made their way to my stand and the buck presented a nice broadside shot a mere20 yrds from me. I thought to myself this was what many a hunter dream of, I let my arrow fly and heard the distint "twack" of my arrow hitting its mark. Needless to say I buck ran like a bat out of hell stubbling along the way. As he ran I heard the snap of my carbon arrow. Well I waited 45min and went down to see if I could find any blood were he was standing at impact. But all I found was about half of my arrow, which was tipped in blood, but no other signs or blood. So I backed off and went back to look for him a 6:30am the next day. Me and my buddy were there until 12:30 and then the downpour came, we were soaked and had to leave.....we found NO blood what so ever. And now it's suppose to rain until Wensday!!! HELP WHAT DO YOU THINK HAPPENED????

I think you have a dead deer on your hands and you need to go find him.

Sounds like maybe you hit the opposite shoulder when the arrow tried to exit and the deer's leg snapped the arrow.

Ironworker,
Thats the thing....whenI went back the next day I thought for sure that I would have at least a spot of blood or two, but nothing!!!![:o]Me and my buddy did the whole gird thing and still nothing??? And what makes it even more frusterating is that I did find some blood on the half of the arrow that I found....but that was it!!! I hate this feeling, I don't think I've gotten a good nights sleep since it happened.....[&o]

Tyler... Take your dog for a walk in the woods. Don't take your bow, but He may just point you in the right direction trained or not. Good Luck and don't give up!!!

What color was the hair? I had this happen one time when I hit a buck very low behind the shoulder. The arrow went throught the flesh low in the chest right behind the leg and he broke my arrow. The arrow never entered the chest cavity. I found both pieces of the arrow with little blood, white hair, and a piece of flesh with white hair on it. I know he survived cause I messed up another opportunity at him the next year :(.

This happened to me but during rifle season. I shot at a nice eight point buck over two hundred yards away. I found blood where i shot him and he actually went and lay down. there was a huge blood spot there. But i guess when we went up there, we scared him off and he ran like crazy. We could not find anymore blood. Later the next morning, our friend who owns the land next to us was walking from his stand and found the deer i shot. It was over a mile away from where i shot it.

So more than likely he is out there.

that sounds like a shoulder hit to me with enough penetration for the arrow to stay while smoking trees on the way through. Sounds like an opposite shoulder hit to me, but if it was, the deer would be dead within 150 yds cause you would have gotten lungs/heart. So there's just about no way that's the case. Could you tell that well about your hit? I know it's hard when you're excited, i'm the same way. You may have hit shoulder and that's it. If it sounded like you hit a 2x4 you probably got shoulder. And if there's no blood and he's not within 200 yds you didn't penetrate the chest cavity and he's probably alright. That's my take on it, of course it's all speculation cause I wasn't there. But those r my thoughts.

Find somebody with a good bird dog. I used my lab last year to track a buck after a shot that hit a branch and hit back too far. I have to tell ya, I thought this deer was dead after an hour with all the piles of blood I found. I saw him bed down not 40 yards from where I shot him so I backed out for an hour. When I went back out there and he wasn't there. I started trailing him and looked up to see him 40 more yards away looking at me. He got up and started walking away slowly. He was really hurting so I backed out again and waited until the evening. I wasted that night when I should have gotten my dog then. It rained that night and all sign was gone the next morning. Fortunatly I had gathered some of the bloody leaves and put them in a zip lock bag. The next day we trailed this deer with my dog over 1/4 mile just on this scent from the bag. We came to a huge open field of 1000 acres of waist tall thick grass with deer trails everywhere. I thought it was a lost cause. When my dog got in the field she imeadiatly made a left turn and went not 20 yards from us and froze in her tracks. She was looking to the right in the weeds. I walked over thinging I would jump up a bird or something and there he was. I have to say we probably would never have found him if it wasn't for my dog. Its wortha try.
