OK, I'm not going to read any of the responses because you answered your own questionwhile you were asking it.

If it was private land, then do whatever is allowed as defined by your relationship with the landowner.
If it's public land, please get in early, stay late, don't smoke,and try to be as quiet as possible so the rest of us can get some hunting done too.

Is this a real question? Come on, a novice hunter will hike 2 miles into the woods and hopes to pickthat one tree to hunt?

Damn, I walked two miles and I'm going to shoot this monster button buck and have to drag him two miles?I'm glad I shot a little one.

illegal is illegal, theres no need to break the law when it is not needed. drag your deer out after you feild dress it, it really couldn't be that hard, ask some buddies to help you if nothing else, there are ways around breaking the law ...
