There's alot of good info on this thread. I, first of all, agree with everybody who has said you have plenty of energy to kill any critter with your set up. I personally shoot a longbow (surprise) using 850 gr. arrows and shooting them a blistering 175 fps. according to the Ke I'm getting 58 lbs. of energy. The golf ball example is an example of the "slug" method. In that formula I'm getting 66 lbs of energy. Your going to need your 400 gr. carbons flying around 350 fps in the slug method and 250 fps in the Ke method to match this. The only place your going to loose penetration with the lighter arrow is when you hit heavy resistance, like a shoulder bone, that's where the slug method more realistically depicts penetration. I've shot completely through bull elk, bear and all kinds of deer and so will the carbon guy if good shots are always made. I like my equipment to be able to handle that one that is less than perfect and so far it has.

Don't get me wrong Lilhunter,I know that a longbow, recurve or any bow will do a superb job,as long as the arrow setup matches what you are shooting.Example,a 3" expandable out of a 60# recurve will not yield the best results, most of the time.Put a 2 blader on as you were stating, and it will do a great job.
I think we will agree that a high energy compound will forgive more setup flaws than will a lower energy longbow. The longbow has to make good use of energy that is there and a higher energy compound can waiste a little here or there, like when using some mechanicals. It still has to use the right arrow ,broadhead combo.
Arthur, that is an excellent point about fletching.I have a little cheap target and my arrow will go all the way to the fletching and stop, but in an animal with the shaft that I use it is a small concern because they are attached to a part of the shaft that is half the size of the front or broadhead.I also use the low profile vanes for this reason along with the drag of the larger verses smaller.
Big country, with spokesmen like Nugent,we could all be in trouble. There are much better spokesmen out there and I would like to see him drift off into the background.

Ha ha ha,
This issue is really a never ending one but is one of the most important issues we can discuss and accuracy is the other.
These discussions might give us the answer to why we didn't get that passthru when maybe we should have.
Just about any bow is capable of achieving a passthru and is up to us to figure out what it will take to achieve it.
When any of us get that magical setup it is going to be hard for anyone to tell you something is better for you.

Whackem and stackem dude...heck no he doesnt. He does do things in an odd sort of way but I agree with everything that I have heard of him so far. My wife bought a membership to his 'club' but after a year of paying and receiveing hardly more then a sew on patch and some other frills I found very little to it....not my cup o tea, but then again I am finding out that most of the clubs I have been or wanted to become a member of for one reason or another I didnt.
