Poachers strike again!
I have been hunting an area nerar my home in N Ga since th efirst week of bowseason. I have seen and passed on numerous does, small bucks, and even some bucks that I normally would take because of the reputaion of th edeer on this land. 3 weeks ago, I got ocnfirmation by sighting a 150 class 10 pointer, that wouldn't come close enouh for a shot, and th eweek before saw 4 different 8s in one morning. I'm excited because the rut is approaching and I am getting closer all the time. Thne, after a morning hunt and only seeing 3 does, and having that gut level 'feeling' that something was wrong, I found one of teh 8s that I saw(which turned out to be a 9) laying dead on one of th etrails I was hunting. He had been shot the night before with a .22 rifle![:@]That same day, i had to run off 3 different 'hunters' that claimed to have permission on this land, which I have exclusive permissionfrom the landowner. i gave it a couple of weeks to rest, and contacted the sheriff's dept and DNR to patrol th eland and felt confident that things would return to normal. Boy was I wrong! After getting in my stand in th edark, an hour later 2 guys came up th eridge I was on carrying rifles, and one guy posted about 75 yards infront of me. The DNR said that you have to catch them in the act, so after 2 shots rang out, I called and an officer came and ticketed one and he and Iset out to find the place where the shots were fired. He gave up teh search, but I continued and jumped up a one sided buck almostunder my feet, with blood in its bed. I called himback and we followed teh blood trail until we found where the shot was made from. Long story short---poachers busted Trespassing, lying to anofficer(the first guy told teh officer that the phone call he made when he was approached by the DNR was just to a 'buddy', and that his buddy wasn't hunting on the private land, which both were proven wrong) It cost me a day, and was aggravating to say th e least, but 2 poachers tagged and bagged!!!!Now, we'll see what I cansalvage for teh season.

RE: Poachers strike again!
Greg, I'm glad you were able to catch a couple of them and I hope word gets out to stay off that land! I've had the same problem in one of my areas and had my friend - a local gamewarden come in. He caught 11 guys in two days!!! The problem subsided somewhat after that, but it's starting up again. I hope you're able to score now on one of the big boys since some of the troublemakers are gone.
