Midwest Rut

Lets talk rut. What are you seeing so far? Also when you post make sure that you let people know at least what state your from. This can help us all.
Im in nw Illinois- Seen 8pt following doe from a distance, not chasing but there was some type of intrest.

I am not hunting until Thursday night through the weekend, I have the perfect rut stand, so hopefully it will kick in big time very soon. Should be a good weeked.

A co-worker of mine had 3 buck fighting under his stand last weekend and saw a few spikes chasing does (Craig County, OK). The little guys are chasing and I think with this cool weather coming in the big guys should start soon.

I hunt northern WI and while I have seen some bucks roaming and definitly on a mission, I am certain they weren't chasing yet. Anytime nowthough. Lots of scrapes and rubs.

The rut is starting pretty quick here in east central illinois. This moring as I was getting in my truck to leave I noticed a doe about 120 yards in front of me along the back edge of a field. Seconds later a nice 12 point came out with his nose to the ground and I watched him chase her all over that field for probably 10 minutes or more. The bucks are rutting, and I also found a nice scrape line inside the woods consisting of about 7 or 8 scrapes roughly 200 yards north of my stand. I was scouting on my way out because I haven't seen any deer from that stand the last four times I've set there. I think I know where I'll be moving it to.

Im from Missouri and 2 weeks ago i saw a little 6 pointer lift up a doe's tail with his nose and check to see if it was time. He was with a group of four other does. I guess he's just waiting on them.

I made a mock scrape last wednesday on my property in Northern Lower Michigan, within 2 days there were 5 scrapes within 50 yards of the Mock Scrape! Lots of young bucks with their noses stuck in the Does crotches!!!! Good luck!

Yesterday I saw a nice 7 point with a swellen neck. Tonight I watched two bucks sparring and a doe about 300 yards in the corner of the field and they had no intrest in her at all. So I think it must be starting here in Northern Illinois.

I've been hunting for the last three days in a row and haven't seen any bucks trailing does. I am in central Missouri. I have the next 10 days off as I'm on vacation, so I'll expect some rutting activity to show up before long. It's a great time of year. This time of the year is exactly what we live for all year long. I can't help but be stoked!!

The last week the little bucks have been chasing the does, but haven't seen a shooter chase until tonight, he was right with her, she came in and he was rightwith her then she took off the other way and he stayed with her......I live in North Eastern Iowa........Finally getting some shooters on the ol'cuddeback during daylight as well I would bet within the next week they will be going hard at it.....

here is southen wi i have seen at least 12 bucks chasing does, but all are 100'' or less. My huntin partner saw 2 bucks chasing a doe one was a heavy 10 and the other was a really tall 8. I was also talking to a friend that hunts about 2 miles away and he said he had a 170''+buck come in chasing a doeand he shot under it at 30 yards.

Up in Buffalo county it looks like the end of the week (if I had to guess). I have vacation starting the 4th until the 12th so I hope. Out last weekend and just small ones cruising still.

I just got out of the woods about an hour ago here in Southern IN. I passed up a very respectable 8 pointer at 10 yds. that eventually went out and fought another 8 pointer that was bigger. One of the most exciting hunts I've had. Watched'em make scrapes, posture, chase off smaller bucks and them fight for about 15-20mins, and I mean FIGHTING!!

I did have a doe come in while the bucks were getting after it, and I could smell her estrus. No chasen that I've seen yet, but definitely bucks gaining territory.

This past Sunday a buddy of mine was out and he saw two bucks go at it hard!! He heard this big clash and looked over and these guys were leaving it all out on the field! I have never been lucky enough to witness that. One day, maybe this weekend?

I hunt in Southwest Indiana. I have seen smaller bucks chasing doers around and making scrapes. The other night I saw two sets of six pointers sparring. That night I also saw two smaller eight points together. The whole night the four 6 pointer were chasing around about 10 does. I haven't seen any big bucks though.

Very little activity in northwest Arkansas. Seeing does but no bucks. Catching alot of different bucks on the trail cams but not seeing them during the day. Cold front came through last night so maybe now the action will start...I'm ready, just hope they are!!

I have seen some big bucks cruising and on my way to work this morning I saw a basket 8 with his nose to the ground. On Wed.I sawwhat looked to be a 160 inch buck that appeared out of nowhere. I did a rattling sequence and a grunt with my madcall growl and boom he was standing on the logging road. I could not lure him in the rest of the way for the life of me.He would not come all the way in all te way so I would say the bigs bucks still need a little time but the young ones testostorone is flaming hot. Good luck to all and be safe.

this weekend in southern wisconsin should be rockin. I have seen some really nice bucks chasing and on the trail while shining and hunting this week. With this cool weather comming in right now it should get the deer to really move.

I hunt in NW Wisconsin, about 1 1/2 hours north east of the Twin Cities. I have had the good fortune to be in the woods quite a bit lately. Over the last week, rub and scrape activity has really kicked off. We are seeing some monster rubs, and we are very lucky to be in an area where 150 - 180 class bucks can be taken. However, my experience and that of others is that the big boys are not moving yet. Not sure why. I was in the woods for almost all of yesterday and saw 5 bucks. 4 were 1 1/2 year olds, and one was a nice 3 1/2.(I almost had a shot!). The young ones seem to be rutted up and a little less jumpy, however, the older buck did not seem like he was rutting. Hopefully things will start to ratchet up now.

Other hunters in our area are saying the same thing - lots of sign, but not as much movement as you would expect.

10/29/06 Hunted Morgan Co. and had a small 8 crusing a ridge,Nose too the ground and when he hit my drag,it fired him up Doe pee, About 45 minutes later had a doe walking around solo and from the top of the ridge a real brusier caught sight of her and started to chase her, she did'nt want anything to do him and ran off he stood there watching and then he started to feed on accorns, I think the boys are ready but the girls arent, but this is a great time too stay on stand as long as possible, Iam on Vacation after my shift(24), and plan too be hunting hard?

It's supposed to peak around the 6th and 7th. But the temps are going to be pushing 70 in Northern IL. I wonder what affect it will have.

28 degrees this morning in will county IL. At 0700 I saw a nice 8pointer trailing 3 does, 2 of the does were yearlings, they still had some spots I don't think that buck cared much!

Good Luck!!!

I would say it is about to hit any day now here in Central Illinois. I saw 5 bucks today and 5 does. They are all moving and I even saw a decent 8 pointer chasing a doe. She was resisting a little though.

anyone in Illinois using doe estrus yet? Or still using doe pee? Estrus bleats or just doe bleats?

I have been out the last three nights, first two afternoons in that cold crappy wind andtoday wasn't to bad. Haven't seen anything. A week ago or so I had seen several does and a nice buck.....I have always had wind in my favor. I have been using estrus on a drag to stand. some rattling and estrus bleats. Didn't know if that would effect them (to early?)....I wouldn't think so being this close to rut.

Thanks craig
