Default Phase of the rut in the east?

What phase do you all think it's in right now (for all you mid atlantic hunters out there?) I'm not hunting until this Saturday which looks great weather wise. Then I'm hunting November 7 and 8. The next week after that I'll be out on the 14th and 15th. Why do I get the feeling I'm getting out too late??

My buddy saw all kinds of action this weekend albeit from the young bucks, but he saw some hammers come in too. I'm perplexed.

Here in Pa it's just a little pre rut activity, mostly smaller bucks, but I'm catching them on my trail camera during daylight hours. Around 2:00Pm - 3:00PM. I'll be hunting this Wed., all day and again next Mon. and Tues. the 6th &7th when it should be in high gear!!! I'm psyched!!!!

Prerut action here in the Northern Hemisphere, it's coming on strong tho, your getting out just in time. I tagged out this past Thursday and I took the next two weeks off. I rearranged a couple days to head to NC and hunt with SBGobblers the 17-18th, hope I won't hit it too late down there.

I'm in Maryland as well and from what I've been seeing, all signs are pointing to it being the prerut stage right now. I've seen a good amount of scrapes already this year, but I'm not so sure that its the mature bucks doing all of the sign yet. I'm willing to guess that in a week or two, the seek and chase phase may start to become more evident before the full rut comes in. The rut usually comes in hard around the middle of November, so I'm thinking that the second week of November should be peak activity.

I'll be out this Saturday all day (and maybe Wednesday), so hopefully things start to pick up.

I am down here in Virignia, heading home from college up to Charlottesville to hunt all saturday. Its just pre rut right now, but basing on when the rut kicked in the past few years, this saturday will be right in the thick of it or just a day early....i am getting PUMPED.

I'm in Southern Maryland and Ibelieve it's a little further along than I expected it to be at this time. I say this because last Thursday I was ML hunting when I heard the "grunt, grunt, grunt" of a buck. A moment later a doe stepped into range followed very closely by the buck in question. Every step he took was a grunt. She'd stop, he'd stop, she'd move, he'd move. The ML season at that time was only forantlerless so I could not shoot, but sure did have fun watching the action. Part of this may have been his youth...as I'd put him at 2.5 years, but a very nice buck.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I wasn't able to go out last Saturday due to work, and Sunday I had family obligations. Like everybody else I'm just trying to maximize my time and figure things out. I know the young bucks will stir up a lot of commotion right now, but I don't wanna miss when the big boys do. I am hunting Saturday and probably Sunday evening as well for this weekend. I am pumped as ever!!

Good Luck and don't forget the camera!!
