Windwalker!
You've chosen a great bow with the Diamond Victory, I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. Congrat's and have fun with it . nubo |
RE: OK....Guys with bows shooting around 300 fps, I have a question
Glad to hear you like your new baby! Like I said, if there was one bow I could own already on the market right now that's not currently in my stable, it would be the Victory... And I'd have to take issue with it not being in the league of some of the bows you mentioned; after all, this is essentially the same bow as the BowTech Patriot -- just wearing a different label. It was one of BowTech's best-selling bows ever for a reason.
Just an FYI... Your rubber tubing is going to cost you the most amount of speed loss: somewhere in the neighborhood of up to 10 fps! I believe the strings on your new bow are of a good-enough quality that you can ditch the tubing and go with a Fletcher Tru-Peep if you want. Just run a couple hundred shots through your bow one afternoon, set the peep and forget it. My peeps have never moved on any of my BowTechs after doing so, and you'll pick up that extra 10 fps and never have to worry about the rubber dry-rotting and breaking. Your peep will align perfectly every time without it. Again, good to hear you love your new toy so much! Kill something big with it! :D |
RE: OK....Guys with bows shooting around 300 fps, I have a question
I have messed around quite a bit to see this stuff when deciding on pin gaps for HC 3D. This was primarily done at speeds of 275fps, 281fps, 292fps, and 312fps on various setups I have had in the last year.
Out of my primary 3D rig at 281fps I can stay in a mckenzie medium deer target 10 ring out to 28 yards if I am using a pin sighted in for 23 yards. If you want X-rings this isn't good enough but you can certainly pin gap easy enough to hit the X if you pick the right numbers. Out of my same 3D bow and some lighter pro 22's I used to use for IBO HC at 355 grains, I was getting 312fps. I can get that 10 ring every time on the same target out to 30 yards if I use a 23 yard pin. Sometimes I cut the line at 31 yards. With all that said, if you practice enough yardage estimation and know the numbers, IMHO it is actually easier to pin gap from a slower speed setup to get those extra X-rings. Sometimes too much speed decreases those gaps to the point that even a .010 fine pin will be too close to split them well and still see target detail. I generally pick pretty good numbers out to 40 yards, so I generally like a rig that shoots 280ish fps. Both my hunting and 3D setups shoot about 280ish. |

Oh, and the victory should be a great bow. I liked the Patriot a lot and it is still one of my favorite hunting bows, your liberty is pretty much the same thing.

Congrats on your purchase. Good luck getting it fine tuned and with the remainder of your season.
I copied this off of BowTech's webpage for reference when determining how much speed you lose with each accesory you add on the string. Hope this helps everyone as this is brought up ocassionally on this forum. ABOUT SPEED If you are truly feeling the need for speed, only one bow company is prepared to meet the challenge, and we aren’t afraid to back it up. BowTech produces the fastest bows in the world and every bow is individually lab-tested, and carries a lifetime warranty. BowTech, with its patented, revolutionary technology, is determined to fulfill the number one demand among archers today: maximum speed to target with excep- tional smoothness. BowTech... Taking The Arch Out Of Archery. HOWDO MANUFACTURERS RATE SPEED? IBO Speed Ratings are an industry standard of measurement used by all manufac- turers. Speed ratings are based on a bow produced with a draw weight of 70# and adraw length of 30’’ using a five (5) grain per pound arrow (350 grain). Any devi- ation from these settings causes a drop in arrow velocity. NOTE: The chart below isageneral guide for the amount of speed lost when accessories are added to your string. STRING ACCESSORY SPEED LOSS Brass Nock 2- 4fps Peep Sight 3 - 6 fps String Silencers 2- 6fps E-Buttons 2fps each Rubber Peep Tube 6 - 10 fps String Loop 1 - 3fps (without brass nocks) VibraBlocks 0- 2fps Speeds vary depending on placement and manufacturer of string added accessories. Speed loss of arrows over the IBO standardof five (5) grains per pound (350 grains @70# draw weight): BINARYCAM: Every 3 grains of added arrow weight results in approximately 1fps speed loss. http://www.bowtecharchery.com/downlo...nersManual.pdf |

RE: OK....Guys with bows shooting around 300 fps, I have a question
I have 2 trykons and have vital bow gear sliders on both. One is a trykonXL 32" and one regular at 31". At 70# they both shoot 291 fps with the same arrows.
While hunting I leave the slider set at 30. At 20 yards I aim low on the deer at 40 yards I aim just under the spine. On 3d foamdeer that I have practiced with, my arrows go right in the sweet spot with a single pin out to 40 yards. This is my "I dont have time to move the sight" solution. If I have time to move the sight I can/will slide it to exactly what ever range he is at ...say 37 yards and aim right on. I have dots out to 60 yards on my slider. I have range finding bino's so if I look at him in binos I know the range instantly only takes one sec to find the range and one sec to slide the sight I keep it loose to slide easy. |
