Besides breaking up your outline, are you sure there is no noise from your bow as you pull your arrow back?

I think that a good camo has SOMETHING to do with it, but mainly it is yourset up (what is behind you)and knowing when to move. If you are shooting a compound, draw early and wait on them. Do not draw when you have a shot because that means they are in the open and can see you. Draw when their head is behind a tree or a bush or looking the opposite direction. Deer catch movement more than anything. Camo is somewhat of an excuse to look cool, and I am guilty of that too, but being still and only moving at the right time will make you much more successful than a "good" camo. I have used everything from a ghillie suite on down to jeans and a sweatshirt with success, and one thing has always been true... if I move when I am in view, then they see me. Conceal yourself with your environment better and move less.

You may also have excessive movement in your drawing procedure. If you have to lift your arm way up to draw your bow in the stand, let the poundage downor work out so you can draw straight at the deer. This will reduce movement and reduce the chance of being seen.

I hope you get an even bigger one than that 10-point that spooked!

Things I've learned in a VERY early bowhunting career:

1) ONLY go as high as it takes to get GOOD COVER. I try to think about what the deer will be looking up at when I set my stands or my climber. If I've got good cover at 12-14'.....I'm not going any hgher.

2) NO ARROW REST NOISE. Anything discernable by ME is CERTAINLY discernable by mr. antlers and ms. nannie.

3) TRY to have a big tree very near the one you're in. It'll give you a good chance to draw (when your target is behind the one mentioned). I'll give up better cover to get a tree with one very near to it.

4) Don't "over-bow" yourself. I have a hard time with my 14 yr old. He wants to pull more and more draw weight (which I fixed by getting him a bow with max. 60# limbs). If you can't look straight at your target and draw it straight back......you're over-bowed.

This year vs last......I've backed off of some of the places I know deer are going to be coming from a little. I'd RATHER be a bit further away......to help on shot angle.

I try to think about all of these things when I set a location for myself and my son to hunt.

Thanks alot to all you guys, the tips that you have given me will help out alot. There's a world of knowlege and wisdom in this forum, I wish I had joined 2 years ago when I first started reading. I have killed several big bucks over the years and spooked several also, what's behind me has never crossed my mind. I'm not a studied bow hunter, I've killed my deer with patience,disipline and sacrifice. THANKS AGAIN.

draw when the deer are behind a bush and improve backdrop greatly should solve ur problem
