Default Fixed Broadhead Warning

Guys, be careful. Every year we hear of accidents that happen with broadheads. Please read below of a real life accident that happened to a fellow hunter:

I almost died - really!!

Yep. The title is correct. This was one of the most frightening experiences of my life.

I had set up some arrows for my brother-in-law. He and his wife came by Friday evening, Oct. 6 to pick them up and for us all to go to dinner. I went to my room to get the broad head arrows. As I was returning with the arrows I had to pass through an internal doorway in the house and that is when it happened.

I can’t say I felt it but I knew what I had done and that I was in real trouble. One of the arrows had touched the door jam and I had stuck the broad head into the left groin area. Yea, we all know what runs in that area.

Lets make a long story short. I hit the femoral Vein not the artery and how I missed the artery is beyond understanding according to my trauma surgeon.

I lost a ton of blood from the house to the hospital. More at the local hospital, had an uneventful flight from Harrisburg to Evansville, IN. to Deaconess Hospital who had a trauma, vascular surgeon on staff.

I am sewed up and doing well with the exception of some things resultant of low or no blood pressure regarding my guts. But, I am alive. Back to work today. Its good to be alive.

Scary stuff right there. Read awhile ago an account of someone who slipped and cut his femoral artery while field dressing a deer...a dangerous business we are in.

Thanks for that reminder. It sounds simple, but like I always tell my kids....

It'll kill a deer, so what do you think it will do to you? Glad you're ok, buddy.

man, there are a lot of things that we all take for granted in our daily activities.

I am glad to hear that you are doing OK and are in my prayers for a speedy and full recovery of any issues resulting from this.

I have been looking for an arrow case for a couple of reasons but this reinforces why I should go get one immediately. One I don't like having my arrows exposed in my case even though they are in my quiver. I don't want to take the chance of one coming out and slicing the bow string or risk reaching in the case and put one through my hand. I have had some difficulty finding one. Does anyone know of where to get one of these as I have looked at Wal-Mart, Bass Pro, among other local shops and haven't been able to find one.

Whoa! I am certainly glad you are well..... Alive. No doubt I can see it happening when you think of it. Real eye opener that it can happen and not in a treestand. Again get well soon. Are you able to hunt the rest of theseason?
