Same date...same stand...2 Iowa Bucks!
#1
Last year on November 8, at 6:30 in the morning,
my brother hung a stand in this tree for the
first time ever. It covers two heavy runs
that connect the feeding area(corn & soybean fields)
to a heavily used bedding area and it sits
on a high point/ridge where his scent carrys
over the head of any passing deer. Well, 40
minutes later he arrowed a 148" 8 pointer
with a monster of a body, he was trailing
a doe. The time was 7:10 am.
...that brings us to November 8, this year. I
talked to him on the phone the night before
and he told me he was gonna hunt the same
stand, this would be the first time this
year and only the second time ever.
Early in the morning he had a couple of
hot does in the area. One had a 115"
8 pointer chasing her(on this day we both
passed close shots on this buck-hope it
makes it through hunting season
) and
on the ridge next to him a big 10 point
was chasing another doe, but they never
got close. Well, at 8:40 this buck came
in by himself. He was coming in on the trail
downwind from the stand, but was not able
to wind my brother since the wind was
carring it over his head. Though the
buck caught motion, my brother was already
at fulldraw. At 18 yards he squeezed the
release and the buck did a 180 and bolted
back the way he had come. Though it looked
like a good hit with good blood on the
front of the arrow(he had broke off the front
third of the arrow as he took off) we decided
to give him some time. Three hours later
we followed a sparse blood trail
125 yards down the hill, speck here
and a speck there...and there he was!
As deer tend to do, he piled up in the
deepest ravine on the steepest hillside
on the property. While dressing him we
found that my brother had made a great
shot...taking out both lungs and the heart.
A shot thru the heart and a faint blood
trail don't seem to go together...goes
to show, you never know.
He scores just over 136. He also had
a puncture wound on his nose from a
fight recently.
I think I'll be sitting in that
stand next November 8th!!

Thought I'd add a pic of last year's buck...

...I can't seem to get last years pic to show up???

Wow, now that's a coincidence....try not to remind your bro of the date next year, and sneak on in there when he doesn't realize it.

I took one thru the heart like that last year, a little lower on the hear though. Could be you didn't get much blood cause the heart wasn't pumping blood out. I dunno though.
Which one of you is Mickey Mouse?
Nice buck!! Congrats!

Very nice buck(s)!!!! Congrats!!!
But...I don't think it was the date that made the difference....it was the mickey mouse ears that did it!!
