Big Buck Down - Illinois Style
Well folks, after a long couple years of some bad luck, I finally put a nice one on the ground this morning. I don't have time for a full elaborate story right nowso this will have to do:
Todd and I went in on a scouting/stand hanging mission on Tuesday. Found good buck sign and a bunch of beds in a thicket at the bottom of a hill. Set up a stand right on the edge of the thicket and with a perfect wind and a storm from just having passed through, this bad boy was coming back to bed at first light. Got an 8 yard broadside shot on him and let him have it. Unfortunately I was about 2 inches to the left and whacked him square in the shoulder. Fortunately for me, the NAP Nitron slammed right through it and poked out the other side of him. He only made it about 60 yards and left the most incredible blood trail I've ever seen.
