Sock it to me!

Its gettin to be that time of year hear in WI where the weather turns cold and the morning and even evening hunts are beginning to get brisk. I was wondering what you all think are the best combination of socks? what type of socks do you wear next to your skin and what kind of outer layers? any specific brands work really well? thanks guys and gals!

To tell you the truth, I only wear a liner sock. My favorite brand would be thorlo. Heavy socks, makes the fit too tight in the boot for my taste, they will also stretch out the boot over time. I'd rather wear a more insulated boot when the weather turns cold then to use a heavier sock.

When it gets really cold (less than 15*F) I wear a liner sock with a merino wool outer sock, pack my dogs into my LaCrosse's withsome toe warmers and I am good to go. Cold feet are the only thing that will keep me out of the woods.
