As I got into my stand I thought finally its not raining and the wind isn’t blowing at 25 miles an hour. I watched several squirrels eating on the apples that had fallen from the tree I was watching 25yds away. After about and hour a doe and 2 young one came in to feed the mother kept looking back into the woods so I hoped a buck would follow. But after a few minutes something scared them and they bounded off. Oh well back to watching the squacks I was waiting on a 6 point I had saw on a previous trip up here to Fayette Co WV. I saw movement off to my right which turned out to be a young doe and she came right to the tree followed by 3 more does who joined her in eating the apples. I don’t know if they winded me or what but the first one seemed nervous and kept looking off to my right and finally started to blow and then darted off taking the others with her. This time even the squirrels were gone so I just sat wondering what scared them. After about 45mins the squirrels came back but no deer as it was still very cloudy I knew that it would be to dark to shoot very early this evening. Finally at about 5:00 I looked to my right and saw the 6pt at 38yds munching on an apple that had rolled there he kept looking over at the tree for about 10mins and all the time the light was getting worse finally he started toward the tree without even looking around he stopped at 25yds and started to eat but not offering a shot he was almost facing me as my eyes are very bad I knew I was fast running out of time finally he turned enough for me to feel confident on the shot so I drew and then he looked up at me and stared for what seemed like 2 minutes when he dropped his head I released the arrow and he took off like crazy. I knew I had aimed somewhat low and hoped it was not to low. As he had gone out of sight and it was really getting late I thought I would go look at my arrow. I knew when I saw it he was as good as dead the blood trail started right at the arrow and you could have ran following it. He ran about 60yds and piled up in a small field above the apple tree. The 100-grain Shockwave had done an awesome job, a hole you could stick 3 fingers in right through the heart.
As you can see it isn’t a hugh rack but I am tickled to death with him He is a pretty good sized deer and will tasted as good as a 12 or 14 pointer I’m sure. He is the largest I have taken in several years with a bow.
