switching weapons???
How many of you people hunt with your bow right through muzzleloader and gun season? How many of you put the bow away and pick up a muzzleloader or rifle?

RE: switching weapons???
In Kansas, either sex archery tags are not good during the muzzle loader or gun season. Left over or game tags for anterless deer are valid in any season provided you use whats legal dureing that season. I believe you can hunt with a bow during rifle season. Your only allowed to shoot does though. I may be wrong on that one. I just pick up my 243 so I can reach out and touch something. :)

RE: switching weapons???
I rifle hunt a bit in PA and NY but not much. I don't take time off work to do it, I only hunt occasional weekends. During the PA and NY late seasons, I typically grab the bow instead of the muzzleloader unless my freezer is completely empty.

RE: switching weapons???
I've always bowhunted during muzzleloader seasons. I said I wasn't going to give in to the muzzleloader crazy since they were more rifle than a lot of rifles. But alas, I ordered a muzzleloader from Len this year. He didn't get my scope in in time for me to use it during New Yorks northern tier smokepole season though. I'll make a trip during the late season in the southern tier maybe. I don't really have a place to hunt with a gun here in Maryland.

RE: switching weapons???
I normally use the bow throughout the front stuffer and rifle season, simply because I usually have an extra archery tag left (and you can use your bow to fill your firearm tag here). This year I have no archery tags left :(so my bow is put away for the winter :(

Bow only!

RE: switching weapons???
I have 1 buck and 2 doe tags left. I have filled 1 each of buck and doe with my bow and hope to tag out with my bow this year. I usually hunt general season with a ML but not this year. Or at least not until after the rut. Now that I got my first bow buck I want to keep the ball rolling and get a large buck this year. I have a couple of stand locations that I think may allow me to accomplish this goal.

RE: switching weapons???
I bowhunt right through our "anyweapons" season. I will take my rifle a little more now that I have two young sons that want to tag along.

RE: switching weapons???
I hunt the gun (slug shotgun) season as well as bow hunt, hell I can't wait for upland birds to open. I've already bagged two Coyotes with my rifle as well. I just love to hunt and I will use any weapon I can get my hands on to do so. I haven't taken up muzzleloaders yet............but it's still an option.:D:D

RE: switching weapons???
I just got my new bow this year. I was pretty much a gun only guy for the last 11 years. I will probably bow hunt from a treestand when it is warmer, and break out the riffle when it is colder to hunt from a shooting house.

RE: switching weapons???
Mostly I just bowhunt, but I will take out the handgun during our regular rifle season. I'll also use a shotgun in our late season.
|
RE: switching weapons???
I hunt with my bow 99% of the time. I will take out my shotgun for small game or birds once in blue moon. In fact it's been 3 years since I last took my shotgun out of the case for anything except to be cleaned. I just don't get excited about hunting with a gun. It's been over 15 years since I took a gun out during deer season. I'm no expert marksman but I can easily drop a deer @ 100 yards. I just don't see the challenge in that.

RE: switching weapons???
I rifle hunt opening weekend of rifle season because in MO you have to purchase a rifle tag to bow hunt. They close bow season during the rifle season unless you are using your rifle permit to bowhunt. Before i started bowhunting really hard I just rifle hunted, and a few years ago i bought a brand new rifle, so i have to get my moneys worth. I love bowhunting way more than rifle hunting, but it is just a change of pace.

RE: switching weapons???
I go from bow, to rifle, to muzzle loader, and then back to bow here in CT!!
|
RE: switching weapons???
I generally use the bow during rifle season. Just depends on my mood, though. If I've been seeing deer, and haven't killed any, I need the extra range and pick up the aught 6.....I much prefer the bow though.

RE: switching weapons???
During gun season I often leave the ML at home and take the bow out. Depends on what stand/location I'm hunting in. Last year I had a couple of stands in an area where my longest shot was 25yds.
I had a couple more stands in hardwoods with less cover and I'd leave the bow at home in favor of the ML. |
