Default Deer dies in water?

What do you guys think. If you were to shoot a deer and it died right in some water, would it be alright to sit in the water overnight or would that ruin the meat? I hunt close to a river and was just wondering about this. Let me know what you think.

I wouldn't think it would be a problem what so ever, especially this time of year when the water temps are down compared to air temps. An overnight in the water shouldn't be a problem as the water wont get to any part of the meat other than the entrance/exit holes...the rest is protected by very insulated hair/skin etc...

ps, also takes me back to elk camp where we submerged the meat in game bags into a creek to keep them cool and free of flies over night until we were able to pack it out the next morn, no problems.

I definitely wouldn't have any problems eatin' those steaks at all. I just think of it as "aging" in the cool water, that's all.

Been there done that. Shot a doe in PA once, gut shot it, found it the next morning under water in a stream, nicely chilled all the way through!
