Hey guys! I know there's another thread about this a few one's down, but I didn't want to hijack.
Anyways, currently I'm looking for my first bow. I plan on going target shooting and getting it down for a few years then use that bow to go hunting if I decide on that route.
I'm currently 5'6-5'7 weighing at about 150-160 pounds. On a website I found, that would be a drawlength of 27"? I'm thinking about going with a 27.5" drawlength with a 50-60 pound.
Currently I'm looking for the FULL package. Pretuned... all that stuff for under $500. Or just the bare basics I would need just to go shooting at targets.
Any suggestions on what I need to buy for a bow if I were to buy separetely?
Currently I'm thinking about the PSE NOVA SU. ANy othe suggestions?
Thanks guys!

You can do that, like Bass Pro, or Cabela's, or you could go the e-bay route. You really can find some fantastic deals sometimes. Bass pro sells the PSE Firestorm Lite for 429.00. Well 2 days ago there were 2 NEW ones that were from a season or two ago, but the same bow mind you, for 250.00 and 275.00. And it is a great bow. I know , I have owned one for almost 4 years. You can look and buy if you find something or not if you don't. But it costs nothing to look for "the" deal.
Good luck and good hunting.

Hey Cougas09,
Thanks for the link you added. I have never seen that site, and I went there and it's like a kid at toy's r us...lol
I am not in the market for a bow right now, but I have considered getting a back up bow next year. I am not sure I would do the package deal thing, as I like to set the bow up for myself and get the accessories I want, but there was a wealth of information at that site, and THAT was what I was most impressed with... anyway, again, thanks.
Good Hunting and God Bless.

I say this alot, but it's the truth. Do NOT buy any bow you cannot shoot first. Period. Not because off of Ebay or hunter's friend you won't get a good bow at a good price, nothing negative against them AT ALL....There is only one way to know if a bow will fit you properly, and that is to shoot it!!
You are going to get MUCH BETTER service from your local pro shop than you will Bass Pro or Cabelas. I've seen too many bow brought into our shop from those 2 places that first of all weren't the right bow for the individual and secondly were set up improperly.
Reflex bows are awesome. I honestly think the Highlander is the best value out there right now. Diamond makes some good bows as well, and both of those lines are less expensive than their sister companies. You would do well with either.

Go to a pro shop and make sure you are getting the right draw length . this is critical , if you have to pay for it , its worth it .
Parker bows has some nice packages , the pse packages are not good "first bows" imo , too low a brace , too short , and too much reflex to fit the bill .
bowtech has some nice first bows allso , they may be selling them under the diamond label now .

although alot of people here say NOT to go through huntersfriend, if you do the research you can save a bundle. goto the "testimonail page" mine is the second one down..im devin. thats my Reflex Highlander i ordered totally set up from them. added the target and thats it. i DID however do alot of research and was lucky enough to handle a couple bows at Dicks sporting goods. the highlander felt right for me. im glad/mad to say i broke 2 more arrows since them by shooting them[:@] i love that bow though. for what i spent i think youd be hard pressed to beat my rig for the money. next year ill have more money so ill upgrade nearly everything..but i too was tight for cash and wanted a bow. im happy..but you gota know what your getting into. i felt bows with large grips id never feel comfortable shooting..i just have small hands..i felt bows that had very wierd feeling draws i didnt like..other guys like other things..good luck..theres alot of bows out there to be had at a fair price...reflex is a good company..as are many others.
if your SERIOUS about archery though id kinda recomend you save your money for a while and buy a bow in the spring or later. for 3 reasons 1)you can get a better bow...if you go cheap now youll be upgrading in a year or 2 if your REALLY into it..2. you can get 06 model bows discounted when the 07s come out..yes..bows are like cars...in more than one sense..3. itll give you time to learn more before you buy..and find out what you want before you buy. buying a bow isnt something to jump into. these guys stopped me from it ALOT of times...im glad i listend..i did go against them by going through huntersfriend..but i already knew enough to make an educated purchase..
good luck
