RE: Sitting or Standing?
The first couple of deer I shot, I stood up and then I tried drawing my bow sitting down and thought it seemed pretty easy. I've probably killed 20 sitting. Most of my stands have a pretty small opening to shoot which right in front, so I really have no need to be able to move around that much. When I see a deer, I just get my bow ready and shift my body to make the shot. I seem to be able to hold steady better sitting, too. When I practice, I shoot standing, go figure.

RE: Sitting or Standing?
i feel more comfortable shooting sitting down because of less movement but i practice both ways

RE: Sitting or Standing?
i agree with everyone else always stand if u can soon as u see deer coming your way, but it wouldnt hurt to practice shooting while you are sitting, because i have killed deer setting in the stand because they never gave me a chance to stand without being busted

RE: Sitting or Standing?
If I'm in a treestand I shoot sitting. I have a much more solid platform when sitting. When you're knees are shaking like mine you're better off sitting LOL!
I all honesty I practice both but my pin is steadier when I sit. Plus, when you stand up in your treestand you have to devote a certain amount of concentration to keeping your balance on that platform 20 feet in the air. Sitting down means there's one less thing I have to think about when the deer is in front of me. Plus, I've been busted before trying to stand up - usually by a different deer than the one I'm watching. |
RE: Sitting or Standing?
I always shoot setting down. I think it's a big advantage because I don't have to move to get into position. I have always felt very comfortable this way. Give it a try.

Also, if you plan on shooting through mesh windows you'd better practice that too. |

RE: Sitting or Standing?
IF the deer is coming in from my left and I think the shot will be there...I stay sitting. Otherwise I do my best to stand so that I can adjust with the deer if needed. My only deer so far this year has been from a seated position.
Practice both. |
RE: Sitting or Standing?
I try to stand as much as possible, but some days that is just hard to do all day long. I usually try to sit for 10-15 minutes every so often to give my legs a rest. But I always practice shooting from a sitting position just in case that situation arrises.
