RE: Scrapes in New York
I've done it before. If your hunting opening day it prob won't hurt. I only like to put scent out when I am THERE hunting. Thats just MY personal opinion of using scents. I figure "Do I want them there when I'm NOT?" So I've always limited my use of them to when I am IN my stand so that I may benefit if a buck winds it while its not. Can't do me much good if he shows up and I'm NOT there!

RE: Scrapes in New York
I want to keep him/them interested. If they are doing this early will they be doing it during "primetime"? I agree to only put it out while on stand but curiosity has got me. The last time I saw scrapes this early I tagged a beautiful 7 pt 3 years ago. I'm just hoping for the same luck.

I don't think anything you did will hurt. They scrape just to scrape early they check them again, sometimes. When they find other scents in them the become more intrested IMO. If you find an area that has more than one scrape in a small area it may be the start of a primary scrape. If you find one like that that would be the area to setup on. Here is a kicker. I have done this for years and have photos of deer digging a hole in the scrape. I wiz in them . I know a fellow who saves some of his own urine (haven't quite got to that stage) but I think it would work. |
