Scrapes in New York

We'll, I just put up my last hang on tonight with high hopes. While checking out my other stands, I found 3 (big) scrapes cleaned out and I mean cleaned out. Lookes like they were trying to dig to China. I also put my camera out with some buck urine in the scrape to see what we got. Was this a bad idea? The reason for this is I hunt deer manangement land and I feel like every min. is valuable while on stand and don't want to be after a non shooter. What are everyone's thoughts? Thanks

Honestly I don't know. I have been in college FT for the last 4 yrs and haven't been able to hunt at all. 2007 season will be my first Fall out since 2001. Nursing school is pretty rough!

spikehorn11. Did you ever put buck urine in a scrape this early? I never have, but my friend bought some today and said"hey. lets out this in a scrape with your camera redy for action. Will this hurt my hunting there?

I never have but I do put out a trail cam on them. Lot of night time activity.

I've done it before. If your hunting opening day it prob won't hurt. I only like to put scent out when I am THERE hunting. Thats just MY personal opinion of using scents. I figure "Do I want them there when I'm NOT?" So I've always limited my use of them to when I am IN my stand so that I may benefit if a buck winds it while its not. Can't do me much good if he shows up and I'm NOT there!

I want to keep him/them interested. If they are doing this early will they be doing it during "primetime"? I agree to only put it out while on stand but curiosity has got me. The last time I saw scrapes this early I tagged a beautiful 7 pt 3 years ago. I'm just hoping for the same luck.

I don't think anything you did will hurt. They scrape just to scrape early they check them again, sometimes. When they find other scents in them the become more intrested IMO. If you find an area that has more than one scrape in a small area it may be the start of a primary scrape. If you find one like that that would be the area to setup on.
Here is a kicker. I have done this for years and have photos of deer digging a hole in the scrape. I wiz in them . I know a fellow who saves some of his own urine (haven't quite got to that stage) but I think it would work.
