I started bow hunting this year after needing a kick in the adrenaline dept. and all I can say is this is really fun. I shot a unicorn deer on Friday morning and it felt like a bigger trophy than the 2 big 10's I have on the wall, I guess when you work that hard for something it finally comes together it is all worth it.
Here is the story. I caught him moving at about 8:15 about 50 yards off but couldn't see him so I picked my bow up off of my stand he milled around for like 10 min where I couldn't see him and I really didn't think he was going to come in. Finally I see him trotting in through the creek (I'm on the ground behind a mesh blind by the way) when I first see him he's only 20 yds away (really thick)... He trots up and i draw before he gets to my first shooting lane. I grunt when starts to step out. Well, he skips through my shooting lane and stops behind some scrub brush. Then he snort-wheezes, which by the way is really really cool and I have to let down cause i was getting tired. I had time to range his back end and it said 28 yds. Then i get back ready cause it looks like he's going to move and he starts toward my second lane. Takes two steps and I grunt again and he stops and I let fly. I couldn't ask for a better shot even with a rifle. I saw the fletching bury up in the boiler room and I watched him run off then i saw him cut back and then I heard him hit something really hard. I was so pumped. But I did the smart thing like I've been reading on here and waited for 30 min before slipping out to get on the 4-wheeler and to get my uncle before tracking (Overall waited like hour and half). Well we come back and not more than 50 yrds and one of the best blood trails I've ever followed and I see my deer piled up against a big log. Apparently on his last run he hit the log and actually broke an old piece off. Well needless to say I'm hooked and can't wait to get back out there and try to shoot a bigger buck. It was the first deer ever killed with a bow on our hunting land and I'm hoping to get some others at the camp to take it up... Thanks to everyone on the fourm for letting me lurk and learn how to chase them with a bow. And for the record slick tricks are the nastiest things ever... I could have dropped a golf ball through the entrance hole... Man this is fun...
I attached the photo of him...
