hunting with the women
I took my ex g/f out hunting last year for the first time. I realize that she never hunted before and I shouldn't have expected much, but I got irritated really quick with her talkiing and wanting to snap twigs and not being able to look without moving her whole body. I realized then that I was about as interested in her coming with me as she was about hunting.Any of you guys or gals think it's hard to hunt with the spouse?? Any wish your spouses did hunt?

RE: hunting with the women
My wife wanted to try hunting a few years back.so I decided to let her give it a try. I was amazed at how patient she was, well long story short, I spent countless attempts at putting deer within shooting range for her and low and behold when the moment finally came she never fired a shot. Not because of buck fever either. She claimed she wanted to see what could be more exciting being in the woods, than sitting at home with her. My answer..................................(PRICELESS ).

RE: hunting with the women
When my wife and I were dating, I took her one time. There were squirrels in trees SCREAMING at me to make her be quiet....:D:D[&:]
I gotta be honest though....I would give my bow arm if she would hunt with me now. |
RE: hunting with the women
I have been trying to get my wife to hunt with me for a while now but she refuses. Thankfully she already know she would not be able to sit still and not talk for that long. I'm glad she's able to be honest I'm thinking that she has saved me a bit of frustration.

RE: hunting with the women
As I previously said in another post, my wife does hunt with me. I love the fact that she does. I'm not saying that she doesn't do thigs that bug the crap out of me every once in a while, but I would rather her bug me a little bit than not go at all.I just got smart and built her her own tower stand. She goes to hers and I go to my stand. We keep in touch via Motorola walkie talkies. Oh and by the way, yes, she does kill deer. Last year she drew first blood on opening day of gun season. And she is a damn good shot too.

RE: hunting with the women
When we all started,we weren't the stealthiest things in the woods either. My old man must've been a saint to have thepatience he had with me.Just be patient with her, teach her what and what not to do and she'll learn--we all had to at one time or another

RE: hunting with the women
My wife wants to go just to see what it is like. So guess what? I have a cameraman(or camerwoman). Well see how this goes.

RE: hunting with the women
I've only met a couple of ladies that I enjoyed being out there with. It's probably because they think I'm too serious and I feel like they aren't serious enough... I'm learning slowly but surely.:D

RE: hunting with the women
my wife gets me mad sometime because even though she like hunting she doesnt love it. she doesnt enjoy practice (she shoots good, so thats her reason) and she only likes mild weather. she aslo cant sit more then 2 days without getting a deer close or else "this hunting area stinks" . but when she gets a deer its worth all the frustration. i guess she got really spoiled her first year out. every time out saw a nice buck 1st day hit a 17" spread 6 pt in the shoulder (broadhead deep only, have him on video 3 weeks later limping but fine) then she missed a nice 8pt. then rifle she forgot it was a gun i guess and stood up and shot at a wide 8pt and almost fell out of the tree, missed. next time out shot the 8 she missed in bow and had to choose between him or the smaller 8. but it was so awsome dragging her first deer out of the lake (upside down in 4ft of water) and i got to shoot the wide 8 three days later.

RE: hunting with the women
My wife doesnt like hunting and I like it that way. Hunting is my get away time at man camp, no girls alowed. arrr arrrr.

RE: hunting with the women
My other half wanted to go with me one time three years ago, but i don't have to worry about that anymore because she won't go back. It took about ftwenty minutes in the treestand and she couldn't take it anymore. It ruined that hunt that day because we left 2 hours before sunset.

RE: hunting with the women
My mom always wanted my dad to take her deer hunting, but no way! My step-dad on the other hand says OK lets go! My moms 1st day deer hunting, she shoots a spiker, pisses her pants, and never hunts again!

RE: hunting with the women
Vikes, that's just downright funny!
I'm very happy that my hubby got me into it. He enjoys me as a hunting partner and I enjoy him. He still gets his "alone" time, because we have two kids and one on the way, so we have to alternate hunting times. It works out great. |
RE: hunting with the women
There's just something about being in the middle of nowhere with your wife in a shooting house. Come on. Dont tell me I'm the only member of the Redneck Mile High Club????????????

RE: hunting with the women
My wife loves to go with me, but not in the woods. She stays in/around the camper studying and relaxing. I dunno, that may change next year. We bought a new Supercrew that she calls hers, she went to her first drag race recently and has started appreciating the finer taste of Budwieser. That neck might be turning a slight shade of red! If she starts eyeballing my new Switchback Xt....HHmmmm

RE: hunting with the women
My wife has joined me a few times. She shoots a bow now and has gotten pretty good. Good enough that she wants to hog hunt. She is not sure that she wants to kill a deer yet so we will start with hogs. I hope to get her out this weekend at some point. She is a darn good shot with a gun and wants to try her hand at a gobbler come spring also. I love that we have this extra time together although 2 hunters in the family could get expensive! And what if I want to go and we can't find a sitter for our 2yo and Carie says " No way, its my turn"? That could be a problem!

RE: hunting with the women
I too, am one of the VERY lucky ones. My wife (of 21 years) absolutely LOVES hunting and every aspect of it. Let me tell you about getting her started. The very first time I took her with me, she wasn't into it just yet. She already had a high interest and was already shooting archery, but hadn't totally committed yet. So, I take her with me one day to see if she would want to pursue it further. I had everything set up for us to sit together and we weren't even in the stands about 10 minutes, and the rain started. I mean, it rained pretty hard and all morning. We saw quite a few deer but never got an opportunity for a shot and needless to say got soaked to the bone. I know some of you are thinking, "that must have did it for her", but nope, in fact, she was hooked. Even after a miserable day like that, the sport of bowhunting was running rampid through her blood.
That was about 7 years ago and she has been my hunting partner ever since. I'm extremely happy that it turned out that way too, and for a couple different reasons. 1- I now get to spend time doing a sport that I love, with the person that I love. You think sitting there trading hunting stories with your buddies is cool? Well, this is even better than that. My wife and I have great stories/memories that include BOTH of us. Yes, she has filled her share of tags to help contribute to the stories. 2- Before my wife got started in this, I hunted with a couple of my buddies. The land we hunted on was land that I obtained and was given permission to let them hunt with me. The treestands that were on this land, were all mine and all the work done to put them up every year was done by me. NOT ONCE did my buddies come in and help do any of the work but yet, come deer season, they had their gear all ready to go and couldn't wait for the season to start. Oooops, forgot, I DID have help doing treestands. YES, my WIFE!! She was always right there helping me any way she could. Never once complained or anything. So, I figured, why not benefit from this and now I do. I have a hunting partner that shares in the workload now, a hunting partner that helps fill MY freezer and best of all, if she doesn't happen to cash in on her tag, it gives ME a second tag to work on ;) But, that doesn't happen a lot. I'd just like to say, the guys/gals that don't or can't get their spouses involved in this with them, are truely missing out on something special. Something that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world and I thank GOD that I was one of the fortunate ones!!! ;) |

My wife would love it...I just need to get to stop shopping!

RE: hunting with the women
Animalized, I couldn't have put it into words any better. I mean, seriously, I could have writtenthe exact same post... Even the part about the rain on the first day.
My first day of hunting was miserable, it was about 45 degrees and raining, but we went anyway, and we sat until 9. Didn't see anything, and I was literally shaking, keep in mind I had borrowed his hunting clothes and used anything to layer that I thought would keep me warm, no experience whatsoever... I didn't have waterproof clothes on and I was shaking uncontrollably. He was thinking that was the end, that my first morning hunting would turn out to be my last *I always hated cold weather, and still do unless I'm hunting*. He was shocked the next morning when I was dragging HIM out of bed to go! It paid off too, I harvested a very large bodied buck. Unfortunately at some point he had gotten injured or something because his rack was missing, big girth around the "nubs" and an extra point at the very base, but that was it, nothing else.... so I call it my "unicorn". Hubby says that was the largest bodied buck he'd ever dragged (and he has a 9pt and 8 pt.). He was in the same predicament with hunting partners. He never had consistency, he had friends who "used" him for his hunting right of way. Same situation though, they let him do the work and they'd just grab their guns and go. We have made so many memories out there and this is only my 4th year. I am in love with the sport and very thankful to him for introducing me to it. We have a lot of fun and we now hunt other game together as well, doves, pheasants, and turkeys... planning on taking a bear hunt in the next few years as well. As animalized said, you take your wife out there with you and you will make the best hunting partner possible, how can you go wrong with your best friend and life partner by your side? |
RE: hunting with the women
I consider myself lucky that my fiancee loves to hunt and fish. The only time she gets annoyed with me hunting is when she CAN'T go! I find it really quite amusing listening to her adventures in the stand as it reminds of where it all started. She is seeing things for the very time that she had no idea was possible, and she's like a kid in a toy store telling me about it.
I think she is the reason I still love doing it all so much without ever getting too bogged down in the seriousness of it all. YEAH, I take hunting pretty seriously, and I hunt for big bucks, but she is a reminder of what it's like to be looking for that first kill. I can't wait for the day she gets her first one with a bow......I'll know for sure then I have created a monster. Others have stated on here that they get a little annoyed with trying to teach the better half, and I admit that I've been there! I don't know what it is, but my woman gets it in her head sometimes that she THINKS she knows more than what she does. I learned an easy way to deal with it though....I let her fall flat on her face to prove herself wrong instead of arguing with her!:D In truth.....I wouldn't trade our time in the woods together for ANYTHING! Good luck to you all this year and especially the couples enjoying it together. The REDNECK MILE HIGH CLUB....now THAT is funny! |
RE: hunting with the women
Try hunting with small children sometime , quiet isn't in their vocabulary .
The last time I took my grandsons out it was their first time squirrel hunting , both were dressed in full camo except for one thing , their shoes . Both had bright white tennies on , the youngest one's shoes were the kind with the twinkling lights that blazed with every step he took ! I did discover that when he walked quietly as he should the pressure wasn't enough to light the shoes , so I turned them into a training aid . He was so intent on keeping the shoes from lighting up that he forgot to talk like he had been near constantly since we arrived . Gotta love those 6 year olds ... |
