Girlfriend got a bow!!!
Recently I have been shooting non stop and I guess my girlfriend just got bored watching so she decided to get one. Once she had getting a bow set in her mind, its all she talked about. So today she bought a PSE Spyder for only 50 dollars. The bow is in great shape and it fits her 5' 1" frame perfectly. We took it to my local bow shop and got everything tuned in. We came home and she starting shooting and did incredible. She already can shoot 5" groups at 15 yards. She plans on hunting and I told her to practice for a year first. Im so happy she enjoys shooting with me. No more complaining about being bored or saying im obsessed. Now I want a Tribute but I gotta buy the ring first.

RE: Girlfriend got a bow!!!
That's what I try to tell all of hubby's envious friends. They all say, "Man, how'd you do it? How'd you get her into hunting?"
I tell them just to go out and buy them the equipment... that's what hubby did shortly after we started dating... he just bought me a gun and asked if I'd hunt with him. It was some sort of a proposal all in itself! Congrats to you, you will find that hunting will become a tight glue that will help hold you two together through think and thin. If you have hunting buddies, you already know what I mean, but when it is a spouse/significant other (even your kids), it becomes a heck of a lot more special! |
RE: Girlfriend got a bow!!!
That's cool! But I do agree...get some pics on here so we can help her figure out correct form. ha, ha

RE: Girlfriend got a bow!!!
I guess I am on the other side of the fence. I don't want my wife to shoot or hunt. Hunting season is MY timeanddeer camp is for guys. I want to walk into camp, grab a beer, belch, fart and swear without fear of a woman saying or thinking I am disgusting!! Not saying women shouldn't hunt, I think it is awesome...I just happen to think men and women need their time apart to persue their own thing...hunting is MY thing, painting is my wife's thing. I don't want to paint, and she doesn't want to hunt or go to deer camp...Life is good, life is fine.

RE: Girlfriend got a bow!!!
Wow! She's a good looking lady. I also have a goodlooking wife, that was deerhunting back as far as her teenage years. She knew I loved deer hunting, and just shooting in general with bows and guns. So it was only natural that she and I would shoot and hunt together. So I took her out to buy her all new camo, and a new gun. She always hunted with a 742 woodmaster 30-06. Well, when she had finally decided on a new gun, she picked a new Remington 7400 carbine synthetic in 30-06. I thought she might want something with a little less recoil, but she was very adament about that 30-06. She also had never shot with a scope, so I let her steal one of my Nikons off of one of my guns, and she can shoot a 3 shot group to the edge of the bullseye at 100 yards that you can cover with a nickel. She has also recently showed an interest in shooting a bow. She's not sure about deer hunting with it butshe has said she wants toget one andpractice with me, and I love the idea. She is my best friend, and we love doing things together. So congratulations on the up and comingmarraige, and congrats on having a special woman that wants to spend time withyou on your terms and in your way.
Good hunting God Blless |

RE: Girlfriend got a bow!!!
LOL @ mauser! That's why I carry a tiny purse... this way I can't fit a whole lot in it, but you'll often find my release stuffed in there though!
I love to see other women hunting... and as far as the "guy time" and whatnot... I can see your point, but what if you s/o is genuinly interested in it, what do you tell her, "No WAY, that's MY thing!" As hunters, we should always be looking for the next person we can introduce to the great sport. I don't care who it is, a child, a wife or girlfriend, or just a friend from work, in my opinion, you should never discourage someone from the great outdoors. My husband is proud to take me on hunting trips with him, and if we had a deer camp to go to, he'd be excited to take me there too. We make our own hunting camp come dove season, we take 4 or 5 days to camp out with our hunting buddies, cook our harvest over the open flame, drink a few beers, and shoot the sh*t, it's one of the best times of the year. As far as "letting go" and just being a guy... if a woman hunts, and she makes the decision to go to a hunting camp with mostly or all men, she had just better expect that things are naturally going to go that way. If you have a good woman who is willing to blend right in, great, but if you realistically have aprissy, cheerleader type (sorry about your luck ;)), I definitely wouldn't suggest it. LOL I wish I could get the picture up of when my hubby took me pheasant hunting with all of his hunting buddies last year, but it's a .bmp format and I can't get it as jpeg...??? There is one thing that is for sure, hunting together will grow a bond between you and your wife/gf that can never be matched... it's just one of those "special" things you do together, and every relationship needs that in some way or another, there are more memories made in the woods than anywhere else I can think of! |

RE: Girlfriend got a bow!!!
buck huntin girl...i agree 100%. im working with her..but its hard shes 20 and i have to start at the beginning..i will have to teach things that ive never been taught..they were just common knowledge because of how i was brought up. id LOVE for her to get into shooting. but being she was never around guns and still shys away when i pick one up in my room shows me shes not ready yet. i take her fishing STILL after the whining episodes. i make her promise to listen to me and bring what i tell her to bring. this summer i actually had her drive seperatly so she could sit with me..but if she got bored she was free and didnt hinder my fishing. she ended up staying every night though. shes like a little kid..gota keep her interested. i gave her the bait bucket and a stick this summer. keep her busy for hours. i understand though shes not used to everything yet. she will get there. its just not going to be one of them things where i say hey lets go buy your hunting liscense were goin to kill some deer tomarrow. i dont know if i could ever get her in the woods....i took her down small trails fishing and she didnt like that much..so being in the woods might not work. idl ike to see her get into shooting..archery would be awesome. shes very interested in my bow and watching me shoot. she thinks its so neat. how that "stupid ugly thing" can " throw that stick so fast and far" and "that stick will actually go through a deer" another thing thats slows down progress is i goto college full time and still work. she works 2 jobs....so time is limited alot. thats why we do a good bit of fishing because we get more time in the summer...
id never discourage anyone from hunting. just gota build people up to it. just because someone is interested in hunting doesnt mean give em a gun and take them. i think it takes teaching and undestanding first...just the way i think. it was easy for me...i was born with a fishing rod and a gun...it wasnt a question of IF i wanted to go..it was WHEN are we going! |
RE: Girlfriend got a bow!!!
LOL... well, some guys like that sort of thing ;)
She comes from a line of anti's,eh? So did I. I hated hunters and hunting when I met my husband. I was NOT thrilled with the idea he hunted, but then he made me some bbq venison roast and my entire philosophy changed! LOL Seriously though, when I started thinking about raising a cow only to club it over the head, lol, I realized hunting isn't nearly as cruel as how that prime rib got onto my dinner plate! You just never know... maybe she could learn to get the breakup pattern on her new acrylic nails... :D |

RE: Girlfriend got a bow!!!
I think it is a case by case scenario, because in my situation, I had mentioned a POSSIBLE interest in sitting in the stand with hubby.... maybe... and next thing I know, he's buying me a gun for my birthday and 3 months later I'm hunting with itand killing my first deer, and it all kinda just happened. I guess he figured, hey, what's the worst that can happen, I buy her a nice new gun, she doesn't want to hunt.... *I* get the gun... LOL It was a win-win situation for him!
I'm honestly impressed with the willingness of so many men just in recent years to teach women and children the in's and out's of the sport, it's really on an increase and I love it. I really love it when there are attractive women that hunt because many people hear about a woman that hunts and they expect her to look like Brunhilda... it's like, Um, NO.... we can be lookers *and* hunters! :D |
RE: Girlfriend got a bow!!!
If you want me to come help her with her form, i guess i could force myself to do that... It would be really tough for me to work with her but i think i could help her hands on.... LOL..... Thats good she like to shoot, Good luck to you both this year...
