i really get sick of hearing hunt the wind because i have deer coming from all directions no matter where i hunt (making it sound like a bad thing) i do try to hunt the wind if i know most of the deer come from one way or the other but i just dont have the land areas to hunt exclusively by the wind. im sure it helps its just frustrating to me.

Fresh Earth cover scent does work and it works well. Especially around fields that have just been worked up. Its the only cover scent I will ever use.

I have used the earth cover scent spray for several years and I like it. But you have to use it as it was intended. It was not designed to eliminate all of the odors in your clother and on your body, but rather to help cover that last little bit of scent that is on you/ your clothes after you have cleaned your self and your clothes as scent free as possible. If you stink, or your clothes are full of odors, no cover scent will mask /hide you.

If you do your part the spray will work as intended.

I was never crazy about those earth wafer scents. They smell totally foreign to anything else in the woods IMO. I go through the scent elimination rituals off my clothes and body. For any cover scent, I roll my clothes (and myself[8D]) in the leaves and dirt around my hunting area.

The idea behind cover scents is thatyou can mask or hide your scentby adding a stronger scent to the situation and preferably one that won't spook a deer. I guess we humans want to think that if we give them something nice to smell or something mundane like dirt then they won't notice that scary smelling human. I highly doubt it. A deers sophisticated nose is constantly and simultaneouslybombarded by hundreds of smells and they are always paying attention and sorting out what scent interests them. I think the idea that theywill only notice the strongest of these is naive.Look how a hound can not onlyfocus on a human track out of all the other smellsit encountersbut it can even focus on that of a specific human. It's said that a deer's nose is at least as sophisticated.

Consider the guy who sprays himself with apple scent. My bet is a deer says to himself, "that's just great, theres a whole bunch of apples overthere and some idiot human is right in the middle of them."

I just don't buy the idea that a deer will only notice one scent even if it is the strongest one. I think they process dozens and dozens of scents all the time, sort them out and react to the ones that interest them.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I pin the earth sent waffers on my clothes and I'll use the acorn sent waffer around my stands.
They work for me, if I'm in my ground blind and have the acorn waffer hanging on a branch twenty yards out in front of me it won't be long for some deer to come around sniffing at it.

What I have always wondered is how does the scent killer spray, that also has fresh earth scent work?
If it kills scent, why doesn't it kill the dirt scent? How can it do both?
Hmmmm?

Or why doesn't human scent mask earth scent? Is human scent somehow recessive in the scent world? Why do we seem to think that sense ofsmell is an either/or situation? Like I said before, I think the deer can detect the cover scent AND you. Why not? Even humans detect more than one scent at a time. When my wifes cooking, I can smell the onions or garlic for sure but I can also detect other more subtle aroma's as well. If A deer's nose is far more sophisticated, I'm sure that you're not going to fool them just because you add another scent to the mix and if they detect human scent, even in the presence of other more powerfull scents, there gone.

I guess I'm up to 4 cents now...
