Equip my personal shop

You've got $500 to spend.

Equip me with everything you would like in your own personal shop.

Assume that I currently own nothing in regards of tuning/working on my own equipment.

If possible, try to include the prices of the various tools you would purchase.

My winter project will be setting up my own little shop in my basement.

Have fun. :):D

RE: Equip my personal shop

I already have it all. :D

1st, a Bowmender from WWAG from HNI forums. I'm not going to add the price out of respect.

2nd, Bow Vise: $74.99

3rd, Level tuning aids: $16.99

4th Laser Tuning Aid: $ 89.99

Next, Arrow Saw: 199.99

Of course,

Fletch Jig:$69.99

Grand total $531.95

Sorry, I went over but that's what's already in my basement plus more, so much more.

Chronograph, A professional set of nock pliers, Allen wrenches, String jig, string, serving materials, glues, serving tools, arrow spinner, grains scale, bow poundage scale, Apple Press, etc. etc. etc...Better up your bottom line. ;)

RE: Equip my personal shop

There are a lot of items you will need but some I will quickly mention is
Pegboard for behind your work bench and the one FREE handiest item I have is a large magnet from an old speaker.
With the magnet laying on the bench each & every small screw & allen wrench I'm using for that task gets thrown towards the magnet. It will grab it and hold it there for you until you need it again.
It really comes in handy and keeps the small items from rolling around into never-never land.

Other items that aren't free=
1. chronograph (to see if you got anywhere) $~100.00
2. press of some sorts (this will eat the majority of your money)
3. serving tool
4. fletching tools ( I still use the ez-fletch w/ helical)
5. a fletch stripping tool
6. an arrow cut saw
7. a scale to weigh your stuff
8. a sclae to weigh your draw weight
9. a smallradio so you can listen to The Savage Nation while you tweak[&:]
10. overhead bright light so you can see what's going on
11. a lazer center shot tool
12. a bow square

and on & on ;), but that should get you started imho

What can I say, I'm cheap......No, wait, make that THRIFTY....[8D][&:]:D

Looks like you guys pretty well have it covered. Rob's shop is lookin good, now if we could just get him to trade those other 2 bows in for Hoyt he'd be perfectly setup.:D:D:D

RE: Equip my personal shop

I'd get started with the very basic gear and then pick and choose items to add later on. You don't necessarily need a laser tuning aid or an arrow saw to get started. So I'd put those towards the end of your list until you have the extra $300 to spare. Yes, they are definately nice to have and can save time but I wouldn't classify them as a necessity. You can get an old school center shot tool for $10 and most places will now cut your shafts to length at your request.

RE: Equip my personal shop

Before I spend the first dollar I'd like to ask the one question that no one else seems to have thought to ask:

What kind of bow(s) will this home shop be servicing ?

What I would spend it on depends heavily on what it will be used for .

$500 wouldn't cover the furniture.:DShoot a good coffee maker is over 100, and Iwouldn't even think of entertaining without some place to sit and drink some imports. I haven't even mentioned the humidor or the art work.:D

I like Robs. He failed to mention that camera that takes the nice pics though.:DDave had some good ones too.

RE: Equip my personal shop

This is the list I've come up with so far. I went over my limit, but I guess I'll just spend the extra money and go for it anyhow.

Bowmender Press - $
Bow Vise - $74.99
Level Tuning Aids - $16.99
Laser Tuning Aid - $89.99
Arrow Saw - $99.99
Fletch Jig - $69.99
Chronograph - $99.99
Bhoning Fletch Stripper - $9.99
Digital Scale - $39.99
D-Loop Pliers - $24.99
Arrow Squaring Device - $35.99
Carbon Arrow Prep Tool - $10.99
Broadhead Tuner - $36.99
U.S. Scale Digital Bench Bow Scale - $49.99

Grand Total - $660.97 (Before I add in the price of the Bowmender Press)

This isn't including the cost of building my work bench or the lighting for that either. It also doesn't include the bare shafts, nocks, vanes, fletch glue, allen wrenches, and various other things.

I'm looking at probably an $800 project before all is said and done. I can't say as to whether that makes me happy or if it makes me want to cry. [&:]

Good thing I'm young, still living at home, and have relatively few bills, huh?

This is just going to be my personal shop so that I don't have to rely on the pro shop for anything but equipment purchases. I'll probably work only on mine, my father's and my good friend's bows.
