I think.

Upon setting stands in WV last weekend, I found a ridge point/funnel that I had overlooked for 20 years. It seemed unhuntable until I studied it. I have killed bucks there with a gun, but never saw a way to bowhunt it.

It is on the end of an oak flat...(upon which the wind ALWAYS swirls) which is a natural funnel for deer because of the "dramatic" hillsides in 3 directions. The flat actually comes to a higher point, that has some big oak trees on it. The higher point allows me to be beyond where the deer cross, and well above their travel routes as they will be coming slightly uphill when traveling on one of the bagillion trails that are there.

Add in my 20' of stand height with their lower elevation, and I'll have to fall out for them to smell me.

I can see it now...7am on opening day I'll get busted for the first time...LOL

It's funny how you can hunt a property for years and years and just disover such an area.

Haha, just when you think you have thought of it all.

Sounds like you have done your homework and have a good spot. I noticed you mentioned you will be hunting it in the morning. That is probably your best bet, as with the warming sun the thermals will rise. If you would hunt it in the evening there is a good chance as the thermals lower your scent would travel down as onto the trail below. Good luck and I hope you bag a bruiser there this year.

It took me 5 hours to get a single stand hunt on a pinch point last night. I know what is in the area, and it was killing me to give the wind up on some runs, and not others! Man, if someone could come up with a cure for scent, the game would be SO much easier!

One of my best places sounds like that. When the wind is just right, its a honey pot. I dont get to hunt it often because of the swirling wind. I can only hunt it when I get a north west wind. I have keep a stand there for the last 8 years and usually kill at least one deer there each year.
