I usually go anywhere from 14-16 ft. up

RE: Do you get HIGH?
When I use my stand to shimmy up the tree, the platform of my stand which I stand on is anywhere from 8 feet off the ground to maybe as high as 15 feet or so. MOst often during bow season with foliage still on the trees, I go no higher than 10-12 feet because that gives me the best concealment and also the best shooting angle downward. Also, there is 1-2 tree I favor where I cannot go higher than 10 feet because of branches. During shotgun season, one tree I use frequently allows me to climb up to about 15 feet or thereabout. Funny thing, when I climb the tree at 5AM I have no problem getting up to 15 feet. But when it's daylight out, my knees start knocking anywhere past 10 feet!!! haha.

RE: Do you get HIGH?
My hang on stand right now is at 32 feet. If I'm in a climber I usually go around 25 feet.
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
I generally hang my stands between 20 and 25 feet.
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
I try to stay as low as I think I can get by with prolly 10-15 feet much high would sure hurt if you fell.
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
I've been as high as 35' because the tree called for it. most of the time around 28 - 30'
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
i'm usually right around 15' sometimes a couple feet more and less. alot of times if i go higher i can't see at all through the underbrush.

RE: Do you get HIGH?
Two years agoi got this"Green" from a guy named Ernesto on the corner outside my house. That stuff had to have some other "Goodies" in it cuz it knocked me out! I havn't sparked a "J" since.

RE: Do you get HIGH?
It all depends on the terrain and what kindof tree. I have killed deer from o feet on the ground to 20 feet. I actually hung a stand last weekend in a nasty thick pine tree about 10 to 15, its real flat and the tree has a ton of cover.I also hung one about 20ft for that there is alot of elvevation change in this area and im in a pine with not alot of branches. It all depends on the situation.

RE: Do you get HIGH?
No more than 20 feet. It's too hard to double lung them if you get much higher because the angle is too steep.
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
I usually get about 20'-25'. Now if the wind is blowing I usually get between 15'-20' because I don't like getting sea sick[:-]

RE: Do you get HIGH?
Highest is 25'.........I like 18' to 20' the best. At 20' and over the angles just to bad. I used to hunt alot at 10' to 14'.......and just got busted to often (probably 1 out of 3 times). Since moving to 18' to 22' the past to seasons......I've only been busted once, and that was adeer approaching from behind that I didn't see. I don't use any 'scent blocker stuff', I just keep my clothes clean and sweat free. The last 2 seasons I've had probably 45 to 50 shot opportunities(inside 20 yards).
Good Luck! |
RE: Do you get HIGH?
I go anywhere between about 8 and 16 feet. Depends mostly on cover. I don't like the steep angle of shots higher than that, and I can usually get good cover where I need it within that range of height. I use scent killer, carbon clothes, etc.and rarely get busted. When I do get busted it's almost always been because I didn't see a deer and moved in late firearms season when they're extra paranoid.
Doesn't going much higher than 20' make it hard to double-lung them? |
RE: Do you get HIGH?
I get high..
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
i have a 25' rope tied to the bottom of my climber, and i use 85-100% of every time, i do have some 16' ladder stands, lock-ons @ 20-25';)

RE: Do you get HIGH?
40ft is the highest. And it has to be a large oakor something along those lines.
Usually around 16 to 20ft. |
RE: Do you get HIGH?
When bow hunting, I do my best to stay around 15 feet.
However, when gun hunting, I am prone to go 30 to 40 feet in a pine tree. I know this sounds insane, but on public land I feel like the higher the better. First and foremost, to avoid getting shot, secondly helps me view a larger area. If I can see that deer are moving in a different area then I can move. Can't see large areas from 15 ft. These areas that allow me to get up that high are few and far between. Otherwise, I just get as high as I can. |
RE: Do you get HIGH?
I usually don't get above 20ft. I usually stay around 15 feet. The lowest I will go is about 12ft. But it sometimes depends on the terrain.
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
8 ft.? Dang, I've never hunted lower than 12 and that was too low for me. It's all in personal preference I guess, and if you kill deer that low, kudos. I generally get anywhere from 18-25 feet.
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
I like the 17-20 range. I've only been ina couple situations where I had to be hire than that.
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
The 8' is a special situation. It's a tree in a really ideal spot where I see deer almost every time I’m in the tree. I call the spot “The Mall” because the deer love to walk around that spot and on several occasions I’ve seen multiple groups of deer come there from different directions, and they like to mill around there (like kids in a shopping mall). The tree is in almost the middle of the Mall and it has ideal cover at 8’. If I were to move higher, I would be exposed where I didn’t want to be and would have fewer shooting lanes (ironically). Also, the deer are almost always coming from either downhill (which means I’m actually more than 8’ above them) or across the hill where I have great cover and can often see them moving uphill before they get in range.
I usually set up between 12’ and 16’. |
RE: Do you get HIGH?
Most of the time i gor 20 ft. That is how long my pull rope is.;)
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
I like the 20-25 foot range, although my ladder stand is only 17 feet.
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
15 - 17 feet has worked fine for me- high enough to keep you out of a deer's line of sight, but low enough to give you a good shot angle and not scare the crap out of you when it's windy.
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
Only when I'm fletching arrows...[&:]
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
20 feet is the highest I always go in my climber, I would get a 20ft rope to pull my gun or bow up with and when my rope is pulled tight, thats when i stop
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
I usually get up around 20 feet or so above the sight of the deer. If its a ridge and the deer are coming from the down side then 10 feet up the tree might be plenty, vice versa if the deer are coming from the top. In some cases if you find the right tree 30 feet could be your best height.... just keep looking up until you get there!!!
|
RE: Do you get HIGH?
I usually go 20 to 25 feet
