Default pre-rut scent

Hey guys/gals,

Just wondering what kind of scent/lure you use from now (Sept) till the rut (around the 1st week in Nov.)? What kind of scent would be good for does and bucks alike? thanks for your help!

It would depend on the individual scenario , for a drag rag I'd use plain doe pee to arouse curiosity , for a wind blown attractant I'd use apple or vanilla .

I just picked up some buck pee (not buck-in-rut), they are still in bachelor groups up here, are curious, and I'm sure the dominant buck in the area would want to check out the new guy in town.
I'll switch to doe-in-heat when we get closer to the rut.

Unless there are a few bruisers in your area, I would stay away from Buck Urine....try using Doe Urine......I'm trying out the Code Blue doe urine drag this year.

This early in the game I would use Trails End 307 by Wildlife Research on onedrag rag and Tinks # 1 Doe Pee on another one.

I stick to Buck urine for right now. When the rut starts hit the doe urine.

This part of the season.. none. They should still be patterned to and from there feeding/bedding areas. Set-up just off some of the trails that connect downwind and wait for them to come. I wouldnt risk messing around this early with scents and that, the last thing you want @ the beginning of the season (or anytime) is them to know thre being hunted.

That is the exact recipe I use. Works like a charm. I switch from 307 to Active Scrape once the rutting begins. I have yet to find a better system.

This time of year I use nothing I just try to remain scent free and wear scentlock clothing and rubber boots. I use a lot of scent control spray. I spray myself down real good and all around my stand on my walk in. Latter in the year I will try scents.

I'm with Mike. I dont want them to know I'm going in.....coming out.....or there. I'm new at this....but it seems like a sound philosophy.
