My second 8pt of the season!!!! (pics)
Hey Guys,
I picked out this stand in March during one of my many winter scouts. I would not go near this stand until I felt the Rut was hot. It’s located on a small ridge between to thick, thick bedding areas. The stand itself was in very thick scrub oak and pine, with a few impressive rub lines running between both beds. At 1 hour after sunrise, a very nervous doe began making a scrape 20 yds from me. She bolted and he came strutting out of the thickets. Drew the bow, put the pin on him at 25 yds and he stopped. There were a couple leaves between us so I chose to hold off. If would make three more steps he would enter one of my lanes for a slam dunk 20 yder. Well as usual he took another route and began chasing the doe down the ridge. I was questioning myself for not taking the shot, I did have a decent window through the leaves, when he started back up the ridge again. He hit the doe’s scrape and attacked one of his rubs, then stood 25 yds and quartering away. I drew back again and settled, and let her go. He took two jumps and just walked away. The shot looked good but he just casually walked away. I stayed in my stand for another hour, and after convincing myself I missed went to retrieve my arrow. To make a long story short, I hit to far back and left the woods to return with my dad at 1:00. After 4 hours of hands and knees blood trailing a almost non existent blood trail I heard a deer jump up and bolt. We went to the spot and found fresh blood in a bed. So we backed out again and waited the night out to begin early Sunday mourning. After 3 more hours of frustrating, tracking We found him. What a feeling!!!!!! He dressed out at 175 lbs and has a neck the size of a horse, some nice mass also. I am not happy with the shot placement, but proud of our tracking job and soooooo glad I found him. I am having problems with Hunting-Pics.com - Can someone help post pics. ![]() ![]() Edited by - Rack-attack on 11/11/2002 10:33:55 |

Congrats, Rack. Very unusual set of head-bones on that guy. Looks as though his mother may have been dating an antelope.
Many kudos on the tracking! |

Man, that's a cool looking rack. And good job tracking him. Those kind of trails can be very hard.
