RE: What deer would you pass up!
I didn't vote because I don't let anything pass..........the only time I pass is when my tags are full.

RE: What deer would you pass up!
To many variables to even think about voting. Im either shooting dinner which would be a yearling doe or a 130+ class buck. I wont shoot fawns or small bucks but thats just me.

RE: What deer would you pass up!
i take deer to use as food .what i have found is that them old big bucks taste terrible.give me a doe any day.

RE: What deer would you pass up!
Points don't mean anything to me. It is a combination of overall weight of the deer, the spread of the antlers, the thickness of the antlers, ageand timing. Have I shot anything this year? Do I have only one buck tag? Is it opening day?
Too many variables. I have passed up spikes to 11 pointers. I manage deer...I don't shoot the first thing that comes my way. |
RE: What deer would you pass up!
Impossible to answer. It depends on the situation. If I've hunted hard all season, and I haven't seen many deer, and I haven't filled my tags, then "brown it's down".
If it's the first week of the season and I'm seeing lots of deer, I'll wait for a 8 point or bigger (or a mature doe). I'd rather not shoot young bucks. |
RE: What deer would you pass up!
Okie....how do you get those deer to stand still for you while you get down and measure for the 100 inches? [8D]
I passed on a spike last night, but he had two does following him which I would have gladly taken had they not been spooked by two tree rats playing tag in a tree just above the deer. |
RE: What deer would you pass up!
The only deer I pass up are bambi's with spots!
|
RE: What deer would you pass up!
I saw a nice 8 pt last year and let him pass because I knew there were too many big deer out there. If i want meat i just shoot a doe. I'm looking for atrophybuck.

RE: What deer would you pass up!
"I will pass up anybuck I will not put on my wall. If I shoot it I mount it."
I wish more hunters had this philosophy. Too many shoot dink bucks year after year after year only to saw them off and throw them in a pile in the corner of the garage or let the dog chew them up. If he aint big enough to put on your wall then let him go and shoot a doe. We need to do a better job of managing our deer herds and shooting a doe instead of a dink buck is a great start. That doesnt mean that nobody can shoot a little buck, if a beginner shoots one and mounts it then that is fine but at some point we all need to mature as hunters. By the way, the number of points is a VERY poor way to determine which bucks you will pass. |
