First Wolf Picture...
Not the greatest of pictures, but a wolf nonetheless. I might have thought small coyote before, but the DNR doesn't collar coyotes.

RE: First Wolf Picture...
Saw my first wolf last season in Sawyer County in Wisconsin. Recently heard the population in Wisconsin is rapidly increasing and they are being seen in places where they aren't normally found. The times that I've seen them, they've always been alone, followed by a pack of 5-6 coyotes. Must be a nasty animal, cause even a pack of coyotes know to keep their distance and pick up the crumbs when the wolf's done!

RE: First Wolf Picture...
Cool pic JV. I have captured about 6 or 7 onfilm in northern marinette county and have seen one from a bow stand. Hard to tell from the pic but it looks a little on the small side. The ones I had seen were a little bigger, at least the from what I could tell from the pic. Could be a young one. Nice pic either way.

Hey, thats my lost sheaperd.:D:D:D
Thats pretty cool. |
RE: First Wolf Picture...
How long til they are forced to open a season on them? They have become such a menace to ranchers here in Idaho that they had to come up with new rules on when and under what circumstances you could kill them. Believe me, there's no reason to love them out here.

RE: First Wolf Picture...
Nice pic. I'm headed back to Rhinelander in a couple weeks to spend a weekend. Haven't been up there for over 30 years. Sure looking forward to it.

That is amazing to me. I have heard wolves while bear hutning in Cananda but never saw one. Awesome.

RE: First Wolf Picture...
One possible reason to like wolves: They seem to drive out coyotes. Not sure that wolves are big improvement over coyotes, but looking for a silver lining here.
Short wolf story: A neighbor of mine when I was growing up, a police officer who I knew from the local Police Boys Club where I worked out, had a timber wolf he raised from a pup. Very cool animal. He kept it chained up and played with it a lot. It was very friendly. A friend and I were playing with it (with his permission) while he was away. Well, we were throwing this ball, and he would catch it or trap it or chase it, just like a dog. Once it got past him, and he chased it at a full run. Snapped the chain without breaking his stride. He realized he was free and started running off through the woods. My friend and I had to chase him down through the woods. He ended up coming back home on his own and we tied him up with rope. He thought we were trying to wrestle with him like his owner did (powerful guy…benched 375 lbs using Olympic weights) and kept trying to knaw at our wrists (playing, but it was scary to us, being 13 years old and not that familiar with the wolf). He was a little over a year old then and was about 120 lbs. Nice animal, really. Not aggressive towards people, or even other dogs, really. |
