Are you allergic to poison ivy?
 

I usually constantly have a rash during hunting season. I was wondering if the majority of people are allergic to it.

I am just getting over a pretty bad case of poision oak on my right arm...... Wasn't very pleasant, much worse than poision ivy.

Idon'tget it at all. We put up some tree stands and i pulled the poison ivy off with my bare hands.I guess i'm one of the lucky ones.

I heard you become allergic once you get it extremely bad and it gets into your bloodstream. Then if you even walk near it and breathe you can get a rash. Atleast thats what happened with my dad, but ive also heard if you have it really bad once, then you are proned to get it extremely easily in the future.

He11 Yes-----what do you guys do to get rid of it? I tried scratching it open and drying it with rubbing alcohol but i still had it for about 2 weeks.

I am not positive, but I don't think I am. I was putting up stands twice now with it all over me, and I haven't gotten a rash. My wife howver has a real nice case of poison sumac going on right now. Pretty nasty stuff.

If it's poison, I get it...oak, ivy or sumac. I usually have to get shots and the doc puts me on steroid pills for 12 days. This last time I didn't need a shot, but I did get the pills and a steroid cream. Nasty stuff!

I really don't know. The stuff is everywhere, and I know Itouchitwith my clothes, but I can never remember getting a rash from it. I know I must touch it now and again, but I guess I've been lucky.

I've heard of an old Indian cure that if you eat a leaf, then you'll never get it again. Personally I think its bs, and I dont want to try it because I could see my self layedupin the hospital for a few weeks.

That must have been one brave indian to try that, no way you would think that your throat would swell up and close off your airway.

I work for the phone company and the #1 workers comp claim is posion Ivy rash, guys have had to go to the hospital. I still to this day have never had it so I'll assume I'm not allergic

I get it if I look at it wrong! I climb trees for a living and I'm near it all the time. Best cure is know what it looks like and avoid it. Alwaysthree leaves, but not always shiny!;)

I used to be extemely allergic to poison Ivy. I would get it if i even looked at it. And when I got it, it would be all over me within a couple days. But since I have gotten older it hasn't been that bad. I may get a small rash but it doesnt seem to spread

Yes, but not too bad. My kinda GF's sister gets it something wicked though. Really the worse I have ever seen ANYBODY get it. Looked itchy.

I sure am, its been a few years, but i have got it on my face twice from wiping sweat off.. One time my eyes were swollen completly shut. Could barely open them enough to see.. That was miserable. Anyone else itching just thinking about it?

I've had poison ivy on one part of my body since turkey season in April and I do right now.

This summer I actually started doing the series of shots to make you more "immune" to it, but I spaced out a few of them and apparently...it didn't help. I currently have it on the back of my right leg, my right arm, and just got rid of it on my left arm.

At least it stayed off of my face this time.

I've gotten it very badly. Terrible stuff. Since I know how I get it all over I haven't for some years. It gets on your clothes and boots and stays there for days. You have to peelyour clothesoff so that it doesn't touch your skin. Wash your hands well and take a shower. Wash twice in the shower and dry well afrer getting out. Have someone wash your clothes and leave the boots out for a week or wash well after you put them on next. Never touch yourself when you think you've been in it, anywhere. Believe me when I say anywhere. You don't want it where I've had it.

Paddles , get exposed to it enough and will get it. Everybody has a sensitivity level and everytime you are exposed you become a little bit more sensitive to it not immune. So don't eat any leaves or any other BS. Just remember get close enough long enough and some day you will. From that point on you will know what the rest of us already know.

I consider myself very lucky. I'm not bothered by it at all, but if my wife even sees it she'll be getting shots and steroids for the worst breakout I've ever seen.

Growing up I actually crawled thrugh it as a 2 year old, sat in some a dozen times and ran through it countless times and never, ever got even an itch.

When I turned 18 I was mowing my folks pasture and chopped some up next to a tree. I was covered from head t toe in the crap and now I get it easy.. We don't havet oo much out here, or at least I have been lucky enough not tog et it... Some folks are more sensative than others to the ivy jsut like some people get stung by a bee and blow up while othes barely have a reaction at all..

My mom gets it bad al the time but once she had oak so bad that she had to get steroid treatments for it... Sounded just awful, before my time.

I'm allergic to everything under the sun, more or less. Ragweed, dust, dust mite, cats, soap, colgne, ect, I could go on forever. My allergist and I are close. The weird thing is that Poison Ivy has never effected me.

BTW: Has anyone else noticed that there is a bumper crop of ragweed out this year? I haven't been able to breathe out of my nose for a week now.

Ivy Block works really well and you can get it from Wal-Mart. Also take a shower right after you know you have been in it and it helps. Also go to your extension center in your county and ask for the drinkable ivy block. They give this stuff to powerline workers, all you do is put a couple drops of this liquid in your water and drink it and it will keep you poison ivy free for a certain amount of time.

no, i am not .not to poison ivy ,poison oak or poison suemac ,born with these amuneities ....reason unknown...

and yes i have been tested for all 3 of these ...and i get a rash from netals but it goes away faster than most people's reaction to them ... it vanishes within a few mintues ....

i am highly aluric to some types of bees ....!to the point of almost haveing my arm cut off from one bee sting ....that was about 13 years ago ...

when I was younger all of us would play in the woods. They would get poison ivy except me. Some friends were mad but what can ya do.

My son is extremely allergic to it. He has had it so bad that it gets in his bloodstream and his eyes swell shut. I take him to the doctor to get some prednisone and within two days it is completely gone.
I don't get it much, maybe just a few water bubbles between my fingers if I pull it with my hands.

I have never broken out with PI. Once to prove it to a friend I took a PI plant, broke a stem and squeezed some of the oil out onto the back of my hand. The next day I had a small red spot the size of a bug bite on my hand. Guess I too am one of the lucky ones...

Afer taking many plant taxonomy and botany classes I did some research and from what I can tell everyone is allergic it just depends upon an individuals tolarance. For instance if one is exposed once a year and never gets it and another person ten times and gets pioson ivy once there is a chance that the one who did not get it is more allergic than the next. It's a tollerance thing once that tollarnce has been reduced buy continued exposure... Pioson Ivy develops. I hope this makes sence...

I also get it if I just look at it. When I was younger I got it REALLY BAD one time and a doctor told me a trick. He said to bathe normally, and then after rinsing off, use LAVA soap (thats the name of it) and rub in all over the broken out areas, and just let it dry on. Your skin feels really dry for a few days, but that trick worked for me. He said that there is something in that soap that helps to cure the breakout.

ZANFAL get this cream at your local drug store, in the same place as the calmine lotion. It works great and really helps to heal the infected area. I use it whenever I get poison ivy,oak, etc. within a few min all the itch is gone and by the next day the area is begining to heal over.

I've got it right now! I had a REALLY bad case of it earlier this year and I went to the Dr., I got a "Decadron" (sp?) steroid shot and since then I still get it, buts it's not nearly as bad. I get that stuff SEVERAL times a year. Almost once a month; everytime I weedeat my yard, even if I'm covered up completely.

It's my understanding that Poison Ivy, Oak, and Sumac all have the same "poison". It's an oil and it basically causes a chemical burn. Some people are more sensitive to it than others. When I was a kid, I NEVER got it untilI was 17 on a Scout trip to Vicksburg, Mississippi. Just wait til you get it in your lungs. Be careful burning the stuff, cause that smoke will darn near kill ya.

Never got it until I turned 30. Now I get it at least once a year. Not as bad as it used to be. I was told to get an Aloe leaf and break it and rub the juice on the affected area. It helps speed the healing up by 5 to 7 days. Haven't got it this year yet. I'll probably get it this weekend now that I've said that.
