Opening day here in Maine
#1
Tomorrow 9/9 is opening day here in Maine for expanded archery season. Can't wait. My plan is to hunt some oak stands looking for some acorn eaters in this early season. Have a doe and a buck tag so the first is going to be whatever I get, then I'll work on the other. Problem is this time of year the weather up here in the Northeast is unpredictable. One day like today is supposed to be aroung 80 degrees, yet last week we were down into the 40's 50's, so who knows. Planning on getting out in the early AM, hitting the trails around 4:30 so that it gives me plenty of time to get to my spot and set up. Any other tips would be helpful. There are Fields, Ridges, Pine, Oak, and a marsh where I hunt.

well buddy get ready for some cooler weather heading your way. Wisconsin is going to be in 60s for the next week or so with the high being 68. Where in Maine do you live, I used to live in Bath Maine.

You got the right idea. Focus on the food but use the transition zones between some of those pines, oaks, and marshes as ambush spots if you don't want to sit right in their pantry. Deer love the edges. Good luck!!

Southern Maine. Saco area for expanded archery. Maine expanded archery is pretty much south of I95 (coastline). I live in Saco and have a few spots scouted out between Saco and Arundel. Mike I was just up in Denmark yesterday picking up a floor buffer.
The Saco area I hunt won't be huntable within a couple years, it's been bought by a contractor whose planning on developing the whole thing. He's about to start a developement of 300 houses down the road. And this piece that I hunt will probably hold twice that many houses. Most deer taken in Saco (couple 8's last year)are taken from this large piece of land each year.Friend of mine saw a nice 8 yesterday behind his house, which is the area I hunt).

You are gonna havea dropping barometer for tomorrow...rain towards evening. They'll be out moving getting some groceries before the rain. I would set up inan oak standthatis within 50-100 yards of a field. They'll be going to the fields, any staging area with acorns will produce...
