You can kill just as many deer from the ground as you can from a tree. I'm glad you listened to your family and went ahead and got a digital camera instead.

What camera did you end up going with?

Panasonic DMC-FZ7K. 6.1 mgpxl and 12X optical zoom

I have two girls still in sports. One is a soccer player the other is a cheerleader. I needed a real good zoom lense to get close to the action. The 12X fits the bill

Right on. I'll be getting a nicer digital once I recieve my compensation for time loss from the auto accident I was in. I'm getting more and more interested in photography, so I plan on upgrading from my littleFinePix A500 to something nicer.

Let me know how you like it, post a few photos if you have a chance at some point.

Maybe the family will warm up to it in a few seasons. Don't get me wrong I love hunting out of a ground bling. Just wanted to try hunting from up high

Try suggesting a ladder stand, Danny. They may be a little more keen to that idea. The construction is more stable, the ladder reaches to the ground, and the majority of them have a wide base for standing on. Just tell them it's like having a ground blind 15' in the air.

Actually Dan that is not only a great idea but something I had thought of also. The problem is that I hunt mostly public land and the private land I do get to hunt I can not leave the stand.
I just couldn't carry it in and out with me. In fact my daughter and I were looking at a two seater that we really liked but just cant figure how to get it in and out. The terrain is very hilly and we have to walk in quite a way.

Yeah, I can see how that would be a problem. Look in Cabelasor Bass Pro Shopsthough, I believe they have a packable ladder type stand made by API.

It's got climbing sticks that fold up to the base of the stand. The stand itself is more like a regular hang on, but I think your family might be a little more OK with something like that. Plus, because it folds up you can pack it in and out easily.

They have three different models;

Grandstand G-1 Packable Ladder Stand: Weight 20.5lbs. Ground to platform height 6'. Price $249.99

Grandstand G-2 Packable Ladder Stand: Weight 22.5lbs. Ground toplatform height 12.5'. Price $299.99

GrandstandTelescoping Packmaster Ladder Stand" Weight 24lbs. Ground to platform height 15'. Price $269.99

So you've got a few options to suggest to them if you're really interested in getting off the ground. If they're OK with these, perhaps in the future they'll be ok with others.

Tell ya what, Danny....slip on over my way and I'll let you use mine for a weekend. Don't worry, I won't say a word! What happens on The Mile, stays on The Mile. That way you could see what you're missing!

I say that in fun, but honestly that takes a man's man to do what you did. If my wife would have mentioned that to me....Well, let's just say I won't type here what my reply would have been. Very admirable. I just wanna see a photo of a monster buck taken w/ that camera.....Let me clarify.....One that YOU'VE taken would be better than a live one....But I'll take what I can get....LOL :D

The treestands are safe, it's the hunters that aren't so much.

Theres nothing wrong with listening to the words that came from the ones that truely love you and care about you. I know my wife would rather have me hunt from my blind as well and I do quite a bit but sometimes I feel the need to get high. Its a different feeling than being on the ground.I know shes even more worried now since I will be heading south for a couple days todo some hunting on the blue ridges of southern Wi.Its where I used to live and learned to hunt. Not that I dont have enough land as it is of my own to hunt but its become a tradition for me to go down a fewtimes a year and hunt. She wanmts me to take my blind but its almost impossible to with the terrain I will be hunting. I will be using my climber with my climbing harness. She understands what it means to me to hunt the old Hericks Farmstead that has been in the family for 100's of years.
