If possible you should also look at Vortex binoculars. They have an awsome warranty ( lifetime transferable ) and are getting rave reviews.

i got a set of 8.5x56 monarchs. they are pretty darn sweet. from the 40 yd stakes last weekend - there wasn't 1 12 ring i couldn't see - except for a dime sized one on a 38 yd turkey and a 20 yd turkeythat were shot up. i took 2nd.

I bought a pair of 8x42s in the camo 2 years ago on Ebay for $230...They are good binos...Get one on those bino buddies and you never know you are wearing them...

I'd check Ebay. In fact, I'm constantly doing that for Monarch 8x42s. Some good deals there, some not-so-good. I'm definitely going to pick some up, just a matter of when I get some cash. My wife just reminded me to pay another bill, so it probably won't be today. I just bought a Nikon rangefinder, and too many toys in too short a time is not a good thing (its a great thing, but my wife would disagree...) There's a good article in this months american hunter about mid range binoculars and what makes one pair better than the next, etc. One thing that they mention is that you sacrifice brightness for higher magnification. Also, if I decide to do any serious 3D, I don't want to be buying optics I can't use. Also, the lower magnification will probably require a little less of a steady hand. I've pretty much decided that Nikon Monarch ATBs in 8x42 is what I'll be getting. Black or camo... doesnt really matter. I like camo tho, lol. Maybe when I sell my old rangefinderor my old truck I'll start bidding...

I bought a pair of 10x42 ATB's in the camo about 1.5 yr ago for around $280 (had a $25 gift certificate and bargained with cabela's for showing two different prices in two different catalogs). Previously I was using some cheap Bushnell's and there is night and day difference between the two. I love the Nikon's; plenty of power, not too heavy or bulky, and well within my price range. Plus there's a 25 yr. warranty (I'll give you my final opinion when I get mine back...one of the ball detents in the eye cup fell out which causes it to come off track). Aside from this little issue these bino's have served me well...during the season and off-season!

On a side note, buy yourself one of the bino buddy's that's straps around and under your shoulders....these things are great!

you can bet your hind end on that matt. i was shooting with a fellow i make strings for - who frikkin shot 22 up on a 25 target course on a steep mountain. dude was on fire. he won, buti haven't thought about winning yet.funny enough i shoot a lot better when my biggest desire is to exectue the shot with proper form and not worry about the arrow or my score.
