Hey there....

This weekend here in Richmond, VA was the annual Sportsman's Show at the Expo center in town.

Yes, I wore my HNI ballcap (with Michael Waddell's autograph from last year). David Blanton signed it on the other side. He's a cool guy and very knowledgeable on hunting. We had a great talk all about hunting. He noticed my T-shirt (seen below) and commented on Sunday Hunting which was cool. He didn't know you couldn't hunt on a Sunday in Virginia and thought it was odd.

But the ultimate thing that I did (yes, I'm nutty enough to actually do this and pull it off), was I made up a T-Shirt about Sunday hunting and proudly wore it both yesterday and today at the show! I kept getting thumbs up signs, positive comments, and pats on the back about it. Lots of folks are becoming aware that you can't hunt on Sundays in Virginia and the old ancient, archaic, ridiculous, Blue Law has to go....

There were a few people opposed to it (which didn't make sense). One guy made a comment like, "you need to add 'go to church' on the back" when he read my T-shirt, while we were standing in line to get food at the concession stand. I turned around to him like, "excuuuuse me?" and turned around to talk to him. By then he read the front of the T-shirt and got real pi$$ed off. He got all red in the face and angrily said, "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE IN CHURCH ON SUNDAY!!!". I thought to myself, "Oh no... here we go... We're gonna end up having a go at it!!!" [&:] But I carefully chose my words, and said,"Yes, but we all have a choice. We should have a choice if we want to go hunting on Sunday. You cannot FORCE a person to go to church. Everyone has a choice".

....So, thankfully, my hotdog and coke were ready and I got my stuff, turned to look at the guy and shook my head. He stood there glaring at me the whole time I ate my hotdog.

Eventually Virginia and the other "no Sunday hunting" states will wake up and realize that it is 2006, not 1876.

I teach an outdoors class on Sunday morning. Saturday we went on an 8-mile hike in the Hoosier National Forest. We've had 3-d shoots, crappie tournament, wild meat cook-outs, lots of stuff and some of it on Sunday. I never miss Sunday, but for the occasional meeting with the class or a special hunt. When I miss and am in the woods I always take my bible and have devotion in the tree stand. God is there, I am there and according to Romans 1 all the evidence a person needs to believe.

Don't see a thing wrong with hunting on Sunday. Besides, even if you went to church, why couldn't you hunt after? Done that too.

Same thing in MD. They let you hunt 2pre selected Sundays for the first time this year and , WOW!! Here is the ONLY Sundays we can hunt, and its only in 2 friggin counties!!!! Legislation passed during the 2006 session of the General Assembly now allows for deer hunting on private lands in Anne Arundel and Montgomery Counties on the first Sunday of the deer bow season in November and the first Sunday of the deer firearms season in November.

I guess they dont realize most working people cant go hunt before work, and then some of us have to work some Saturdays as well which even further reduces being able to hunt any morning. I cant fathom why bow hunting at the very least isnt allowed on all Sundays during the season inEVERY state.

Im with you. They say sunday is for relaxation, I get more relaxation out of hunting then I do about anything else. It's stupid not to hunt on sunday. Dumb law. I go to church too, but you can morning hunt and still make it to church. I mean, it only last an hour. +1 on sunday hunting!!!!

No, I wasn't at David Blanton's seminar. But I was wandering all around the Showplace Expo, flaunting that T-shirt, trying to get more people to take notice of the crazy "No hunting on Sunday" law....

David Blanton is a really great guy and when I talked to him, he read my T-shirt and couldn't believe that Virginia still had the law about Sunday hunting. He said, "Y'all can't hunt on Sundays in Virginia? That ain't right... We can hunt anyday we want down in Georgia. In fact Bill Jordan, myself, and Michael Waddell have even filmed hunts on Sunday!"

After going to Catholic Schools for 12 years, I personally feel closer to God in the outdoors. I thank Him everytime I step in the woods. The great outdoors in the biggest and greatest church there is.

Cant hunt in Jersey on sundays either, man i hate that law!
