Hunting Arrow Check
#1
Hey all, just curious how many of you shoot the arrows you take hunting before you hunt with them, and if so do you shoot w/ bheads?
I just tested 10 of my home fletched and wrapped arrows that are designated hunting arrows. I have bout 8 other arrows that i practice w/ and bout 10 uncut shafts to make hunting arrows out of. Anyway, I shot each arrow once w/ field tip to check flight, then w/ my hunting broadhead. I made a chart in Excel and rated each arrow on flight characteristics and broad head performance. Used a scale of 1-5 w/ plusses and Minuses if needed. Im very pleased to say that all 10 of my hunting arrows fly awesome and accurate w/ both heads. Unfortunately I have to refletch one of them due to the next arrow cutting the fletching. I tested my arrows at 30 yrds, in groups of 4 for field tips and 2 for broadheads.
Today was a great confidence booster, I can confidently shoot these arrows at game!!!

Every arrow I take to the field has been shot with both field tips and a broadhead. If they don't hit the same place, they don't go. I've only had one arrow that got rejected in the last 3 season.

I shoot test all my arrows and the best three get put aside for hunting only and I don't use them any more until I hunt with them. I get a broad head arrow combination I am happy with and put them up.

I shoot all my hunting arrows first with feild tips and then with BHs. Like others I pick the best, (5 for me), and put them aside until its time to hunt.

I buy a dozen arrows at a time and shoot all of them when I get home. I take the 5 I thought flied the best (usually right out of the box it does not matter from arrow to arrow).
I then put those 5 arrows aside until the first day of season. I will get them ready with my broadheads and practice with them to make sure everything is still in check.
