I'm speechless as well--I wish there were adequate words at a time like this. It was said already--God is in control, and He is--even when it doesn't make sense to us. I'm with you 100% about the loving part--it isn't about being macho or anything else. Love is the greatest element that the world knows. I will pray for your freind, his family and you.

"Sorry for the bad news. I lost my closest uncle to ALS about 7 years ago. He got it at age 47, but he lasted 9 years. The last 4 he was confined to a bed, but he really wanted to live and see his grand children grow up some.He used a computer controlled with his eyes to comunicate. It was slow but it worked. There is a lot of help out there if you look for it. Best Wishes."

9 Years? Wow. I have to believe that is highly unusual at any age. I think 2 years is the average.

My little brother's childhood friend was diagnosed about 5 years ago. He is getting really bad now but has the greatest spirit you would ever imagine. He used to hunt but now obviously cannot. His mother is very broken now. HE was in his 20's when diagnosed. Talk about a bad deal. My sympathy to your friend and those that care for him.

(a moment of silence please, to be thankful for blessings we take for granted, and live life while you have it)

A friend of ours from our church group was diagnosed with ALS . She had a great voice and was a song leader .She has lost her voice and needs to use a mike with a voice enhancer plus she is losing all her strength . It's really difficult to see someone go downhill like this . ALS is a terrible disease !

Guys....if you knew me....you'd know that I didn't post this for ANY other reason than the one stated (and I truly didn't expect replies....NOR are any further expected). I was in line....ordering food when my friend called me. I had to go outside at the restaurant. When I went inside....to tell my wife....I had a FLOOD of emotions. I could not imagine having to tell her such news.

When I imagine a horrible death.....I imagine the AGONIZING minutes people go through when their plane is going down.....and what HEXX they must go through in those minutes. Now imagine that by a year or more. I am humbled.......

God Bless. Thanks, again......instead of responding.....send your wife an e-mail....or call her. Tell her you love her.

Jeff

Sorry to hear that, my aunt is living with ALS right now. She was diagnosed about 5 years ago and given 2 yrs to live. Well she's still here, she is in a wheel chair and can only move here head a little...she communicates with one of those computers that you type and it speaks, she uses her hand to press a little button. (she can move it just enough) It is a terrible thing to see happen to someone, it progresses so quick. You can only give him support and love and let him try to enjoy the time he has left. With Stem-Cell research there is a strong chance of finding a cure for this disease, if only the holier than thou idiots out there weren't against it this disease could be cured possibly.

If stem cell research was the wonder cure, why doesn't the private sector invest in it? It is not illegal to do the research. The Feds just are not spending TAX dollars on the research. Big misconceptions arebeing perpetuated by the liberal media.
I don't want to become political here but I get mad when I see misconceptions like this.
If it was the wonder cure, it would be worth billions, and the private sector would be investing big time, but that isn't happening.
Have Michael J. Fox or Ronnie Reaganinvesttheir millions if it is so promising.
