RE: Whats your favroite camo
I haveALOT of Predator in fall Grey and Fall Brown, and some Predator Evolution. About 4 years ago I got caught up in the scent suit thing. Over the past 4 years I have bought 2 Scentblocker suits and 1 Scent Lok suit.2 are in realtree Hardwoods and 1 is Advantage Timber. I finally decided that I was just as close to just as many deer as I was when I was wearing the Predator. I am a scent control freak so I have always taken care of that. From all I have learned, I figure the Scent suits are pretty used up now, so this year I am going back to the old way and the Predator again. I do wear the X scent tops and bottoms under them, and may try the contain or No trace this year too. But I am ready to get the Predator back on again this season.

That will be an interesting test!:DIf you didn't wash them more than 4 times a year they should still preform well. Washing less is better. There are reasons they say to put them on and take them off only when they do. Keeping them spotless is worth while so if you did they should still be good. If there was no difference then why theswitch?I mean what makes one better than the other, is it the fit and feel? |

ORIGINAL: deer slayr I like mossy oak break up |
RE: Whats your favroite camo
Definately not Mossy Oak or RT, the tend to blob with less than effective outline break up...I am a big fan of open patterns such as Predator, ASAT and I'm anxious about the new Enigma pattern. I'm a current ASAT wearer and if I am pleased with the new Enigma, it will become my new pattern of choice. From what I've seen and read on it thus far, it has all the plus's of ASAT and improvements.

RE: Whats your favroite camo
I use Advantage Timber early season and this year I'll be using Skylines Horizon patern for leaf drop, it looks like it will be good in the snow also.:)

RE: Whats your favroite camo
I have been very pleased with my ASAT 3D suit.
I must admit thought the new Enigma pattern has caught my attention and I will be anxious to see the finished product. For now though it's ASAT all the way. |
RE: Whats your favroite camo
Nodog, I will still wear the Scent suits sometimes also, I just Mean that I am also gonna get all my Predator back out and use it agin also. Believe me, I did everything just like you are supposed to with the Scent suits and took really good care of them. I only washed them a few times each , and only in the carbon clothes wash just like instructed. I am the kind that doesn't put anything that will be going in the woods with me on until I am out of the truck and getting ready. Everything is kept as scent free as possible. What I meant about the suits, from what I have heard and learned about it, and this even comes from of the Scent Lok representatives, is that the activated carbon basically has a certain "shelf life" that it will remain active and capable of of absorbing the scent molecules. I know that there has been alot of very in depth and detailedthreads on here and other forums from people who work with the activated carbon and have an indepth knowledge of its effectiveness and its capabilities, and I have spoken at length witha chemical engineer who works with it every day for water and air filtration systems where I work, and they all have the same conclusions. Most of them say, in the first place, that the typical home clothes dryers do notreach a temperature sufficient enough to reactivate the carbon fully in the first place. That always botheres me in the first place. They all also agreed that after 2 to 3 years of average use, ( and believe me, I hunt alot!)the carbon has reached its full absorption capacity and is no longer capable of doing its intended job. I have had these suits for a while now, and have used them alot, so I really feel that they about have to past the point of working for me. As said, when you use the scent suits, you don't wash them but once to twice a season. So basically, I am hunting in them, then sticking them back in the bag till the next hunt. Now, think about tis If the suit and /or scent garments ( base layers etc) are full and not actually absorbing the scent, you are just continually contaminating that garment with more human scent everytime you use it. So each night you pull it out of the bag, and the Rubbermaid container, and wear it to the woods, you are dragging more and more scent with you. Does that make sense? Whereas, when I use the regular clothes, it comes home and straight in the washer with Hunters Specialties soap, and gets put right back in clean and descented for the next hunt. And I do wash all my clothes that are not carbon impregnated after every hunt. So to me, when they lose their effectivness they are no good to me because I have no confidence in them. Why take all the steps, and then throw on a suit that has been worn for days in the feild and sealed up in human odor.
I was really big on the scent suits for the past few years. Then as I learned more like I told you about, I really started thinking about it I have no doubt that they do work mind you, I am not doubting them at all. But to me, when they do stop working, and you keep using them as you did while they did work, you are actually taking more scent out to your stand with you. I also use the different types of base layers with the silver fibers in them under the scent suits also. From all the research I have seen on them, they are very effective at stopping the scent from forming in the first place. As I said, before all this stuff came around, I just wore my regular different Predator suits, went the extra mile on keeping them, all myother clothes and gear, and myself as scent free as humanly possible. And like I said, I had just as many deer all around me and killed them just the same as I have since wearing the suits and all the other stuff. So, to me, why keep spending the $200-300 for the suits that will become used up when I can keep practicing the steps I did before, with a camo pattern I like better, and add about $40-$50 worth of the Silvermax, X-Scent, Contain, No Trace undergarments that will not lose their effectiveness for the life of the garment? Man I can buy alot of those undergarments and other gear with that money, and still be that successful. That is just a no brainer to me. If the other stuff didn't work for me as it has in the past, I would gladly keep shelling out $$$ for the scent suits. But hey, if I can still be successful and save that kind of money for other gear, that is how I will do it. Sorry to be so long winded, but I did want you to see where I was coming from. I am not saying that the scent suits don't work. I really beleive they do. But just not long enough for me anymore. I guess I must be trying to be more rational in my old age of 41. Mom always said it would happen!!:D |

I can't believe only one other hunter likes natural gear. It blends in with any conditions. I wear it turkey hunting also. If I'm not wearing it I'm wearing Mossy Oak Obsession in the fall and late spring.

Rhody, check it out. www.enigmacamo.com
Wow! That's some pattern. I don't think I've ever seen it in the woods before. Looks like something out of a anatomy book on the blood system. Hopfully I'll run across somebody wearing it in the woods and be able to judge it that way.;) |

RE: Whats your favroite camo
double creek thats an interesting look with the sneaky leafs attached. I always like the home made approach to some things to see what ideas
people come up with. I was thinking of putting some leaves on my insulated suit to help brake up the out line.If you can i think we would like to see what it looks like being worn in the woods. Post a pic if you can |
RE: Whats your favroite camo
I know what you mean Wayomic
I do the same thing I have so many patterns, its unreal from mossey oak to advantage timber and everything in between. Theres just so many products out there, you spend a fortune on clothes alone. My favorites are Mossy Oak Breakup, Obsession and I love the new Brush for predator hunting... Quick question; What camo do you think the early settlers and Indians used? |

RE: Whats your favroite camo
I bought predator several years ago and have found nothing better in a tree stand in fall then Predator Grey, or on the ground then Predator fall brown.
I found this sight a while back when checking out new camo patterns and after reading it figured predator was all I needed. That or some wild Hawian shirts (read article). The guy in this article shows B&W photos ofwhat camo looks like in different surroudings. Most of your MO and RT camo just looks like a black blob when you take out the color. Don't get me wrong those companies helped revolutionize Camo -prior to them all you had was Woodland Green. http://www.whitetail.com/camo1.html |
