Shooting One Pin?

RE: Shooting One Pin?
I just chrono'd mine today. 28" draw, 65# pull shooting 28.5" CX 200's which weigh 358 grains. They are flying between 278-280fps.
Even with a slower setup, I would recommend a single pin sight and practice to know where you have to place that pin at different yardages.

One sight pin will work alot better with faster bows than older slower ones. I use one pin on my martin phantom because that is all I need. I have a older Jennings compound that is made by Bear. One pin would not work very well on it as it is way to slow. Seemed like I had a pin at 10, 20, and 30 yards.

RE: Shooting One Pin?
I am shooting 2213 aluminum arrows with a Hoyt Magnatech set to 55 lbs: a slow shooter for sure.
I use a single pin set to about 23 yards (the length of my back yard set-up). For an 18 yard shot I hold about 2" low and a 13 yard shot requires a hold about 4" low. This works fine for my typical hunting situation: the deer I shot last year was about 15 to 20 feet.
If I attempted a 30 yard shot (which is very unlikely), I would need to hold about 4" high.
I am satisfied with the one pin arrangement. If I eventually switch to carbon arrows with better speed and flatter trajectory, this situation will only improve.

RE: Shooting One Pin?
I will NEVER shoot a multiple pin sight again. One pin is just SOOOOO much simpler. Less to get confused on, and w/ todays faster bows, the pin gap is so close they all blur together.
I keep mine set at 25 yards when hunting. At 20 yards, I am 1" high, and at 30 yards, I am 1 1/2" low. Good enough to kill deer I would say.

RE: Shooting One Pin?
I ahve been shooting a single pin for about 15 years now. One thing is for sure, with the speed of todays bows it is easier than ever to do. Mine is set up like alot of the others here have mentioned their are. My pin is set at 25 yards, from 1- 33 yards put the pin on and shoot. I shoot alot and practice out to 70 yards for fun. You just learn where to put the pin at for different distances. At 35 yards I put it half way between the middle and the top of the back. 40 yards- put it right on the spine and it will drop right in there. The farthest shot I have ever taken on a deer is 32 yards It is nice to know that when you are out there hunting, put the pin on and shoot. takes the guesswork out of it all. I will never go back to multiple pins ever again.
