My 2 cents. Take em both hunting somehwhere. Been said before, can't get em out there too soon. You may not want to take the 4 yr old to your best spot because he will unlikely be able to sit still for long.

I've been taking my two along for years. Started both about when they were 5. I usually let them take something along to pass the time when they got board, but they, WE, had a ball. Now I have a hard time finding time for my hunt because I'm busy setting them up to hunt.

I take him at 6, but probably not a 4 (but it all depends on their maturity).

Can they sit quietly? Do they have patience?

In any case, I would defintely take them as soon as they are ready (whatever that age may be). You and your wife are the best judges to that.

On a related note, I think all kids should be required to go hunting even if only to observe. After they do that, then they should be required to visit a slaughter house if only to observe, so they can see where their hamburgers and chicken nuggets come from and how they are processed.

If this was all required, I think we would not be losing the younger hunter.

I don't think that's the best idea to force all kids to go to hunting expeditions, and slaughter houses. Some kids aren't hunters, and that can torture akid, and turn them off hunting, or meat forever.

On the other side, if the kid wants to go, i would take him, just keep an eye on him and dress him in a lot of hunter orange to make him stand out. I probably wouldn't take a 4 year old out into the field, maybe something tame first, like a little target practice or something. Good luck!
