Don't make it too easy for the anti's to get material to promote their obsurd cause.
I think hunters worry about the anti's too much. I for one am not going to base any opinions, comments, discussionsaround them.

Personally though, I really didn't care to see the photos.

I Ask yourself this. Would your father or grandfather make an appology to anyone or make concessions to anyone for killing an animal? Would they appologize for a disply of blood and guts?
No, my grandfather wouldn't have posted that pic. He also wouldn't pose with a pile of guts and blood up to his elbows. Of course he also took his hat off inside, said yes ma'am/sir, never used bad language, and all other sorts of civil stuff some can't be bothered with these days.

The man who owns the land I hunt is likely closer to an "Anti" than he is an "advocate". He lets me hunt his land.....because we have mutual respect for one another. He denied me that priveledge for two years, though......because he's never killed an animal. He loves animals.....and it took me a LOT of just GENUINE sit-down conversations with him for it to become evident that......I LOVE ANIMALS AS MUCH AS HE DOES.

I hope he (and others like him) don't see these type photos. It won't help our "cause" or any potential lease/hunting land seekers ONE BIT.

Yes.....blood/guts are part of hunting. My grandfather ran the stock yard and abatoir in my home town for over 40 years. So....I know where my steak comes from. I don't think they ever printed any promotional literature with a steer hanging upside down....... still writhing while having its' throat cut, though....and I've seen that more times than you can count. Let's instead show the cleaned-up butcher with a choice cut in a sterile package....to the public. Us beef-eaters know the real story.....and the public sees what they want to. Who loses in this scenario????????????

And for the record......I have NO PROBLEMS at all with the original post. it was humorous.......and wasn't in poor taste (again....which is MY opinion).

I "got it".

Have a great weekend, guys. We're all friends.....

How can we hunters as a community be taken seriously in the political arena and the arena of public opinion if we don't have the common sense to use discretion as it relates to our conduct.
I wasn't bothered by the original post.I wouldn't have posted it but it didn't bother me.
We have enough challenges to deal with without creating more with our own lack of sensibility!

Well said.

By the way, in Michigan we are getting ready to vote on whether or not dove hunting should be legal. It really DOES matter what the non-hunting majority thinks to the future of hunting.

FWIW, my boss sent me (he's a non-hunter, but not an anti) this the other day to kiddingly ridicule me. I just told him that I don't consider the person that did a hunter and it gives us good hunters a bad name.

I offer no apologies for killing Nor will I ever!

Citter:

You just don't "get it". Nobody here is ASKING you to apologize about killing. I can't beleive you can't see that.

I think i's great to even be able to say in MOST company ....and tell the story of your hunt. It's NATURAL to hunt!

What I DON'T see the need of.....is the part where gut-shot the yearling doe.......and sat in your stand and watched as she spit blood and regurgitated for 3 hours before you climbed down to finish her off with a good old fashioned throat slittin. How about....I harvested a doe, Saturday?? It's OBVIOUS you killed her, isn't it????

While I know that "killing" is an inherent BI-PRODUCT of "hunting"......I tend to dwell on the latter rather than the former, and all that it entails.

You choose for yourself.

Jeff

No apologies required, but a little respect and discretion shows maturity and a willingness to be an ambassador for our long standing privilege. Dont ever forget that your hunting is a privilege, please dont make the mistake of treating it as a right.

now that is just terrible....killing is one thing....torture is another....

RE: I warned em.

Yeah, but my point was that a hunting story doesn't HAVE to revolve around the actual kill. Nor do the photos have to revolve around the gruesome. We all know how much blood CAN be involved in a kill. It doesn't mean we have to show it all. I think.....in the right company.....the impact locations/entry-exit wounds/etc... are not only "OK"....they can be educational.....AND a LOT of us here like to see 'em.

I don't apologize for hunting. I also don't bring the subject up around people that might have opposing views.....OR.......OR if I think they might use what I say/my photos/etc... to give to others....to be used against me OR you. (and I'll debate/demand yours and my right to hunt 'til I die)

I dislike the term "apologize for"......I think it's "tact" (as someone else mentioned, earlier).

Oh yeah.....there's also a term called "wanton waste". Look it up. I'm no fan of that, either.....but that's just me.......

Time and place...
The first pic was meant as a joke, and I got a kick out of it. The next one I've seen on another post and can tell NY is awful proud of that shot (as he should be) and wants to show it off, so that's ok. Critter's pic was just put on here to be offensive, although it doesn't really bother most of us or we wouldn't be at this site. Thing is, if you want to promote your cause or make a point to someone, it's nearly impossible if you start out by offending them.
Another point, as a kid, mama taught me not to keep doing something when around people who didn't like it.She was refering generallyto pickin' -n- pokin', but the same idea applies to us as adults. I wouldn't show a dead animal pic to someone I know won't like it, and I don't know who might see it here- so without good reason AND cleaning it up as much as possible you won't see me posting any kill pics.

I think this comes down to understanding that life is more than just about what you think. The public opinion matters and will affect your life whether you like it or not. BTW - This was a tough lesson for me to learn and it took several years for this to completely sink in.
