Just curious if you guys could suggest areas to check out while scouting. Also, this is public area, so I would probably only hunt it weekends or evenings after school during bow season. Thanks for the help.

Residential neighborhoods!!!!! Talk to your classmates and bring up the subject of deer. You will be surprise how many of their parents deal with deer issues and how many live on one to 5 acres. Can you say GOLD MINE?
Good luck!

If you scout before dawn, scan the trees around eye level with your flashlight. Being a public hunting area, you may find trails marked for you by other hunters with reflective tacks.
I have found a couple of great spots thanks to those that have scouted before me. Funny thing is I never run into any other hunters there. They must have marked the spots years ago then moved on.

Need a better map, topo and an ariel of a bigger picture. Natural and man made funnels will be better seen. If that doesn't show anymore detail scout the place out and use a gps to mark possible stand sites. Hunt those sites and see what happens.Be prepared to move. If there are designated parking area'syou will need to come up with a plan so you don't do what theother bumkins do. They will park and head in almost all the same way.Even before they leave their vehicles the deer will know someone is entering the woods and take flight at the first sign. Just slowing down would be enough. You need to get in there without themknowing your there. Have someone drop you off from a different place and pull away, close to an intersection is good.
Can't tell from the photo but the land looks flat, if it is find the depressions that will allow the deer to cross unseen. You'll find trails there. Pick out some good trees and see what kind of shots will be required, practise those. Pressure is high in these area's so getting in there opening day is your best bet.
Any new place I hunt is more of a scouting time, if I take a deer I count that as a bonus. Eventually after finding more and more places you will be in great shape and not be so pressured.

I hope your abandoning public ground, unless you want to and talking to your classmates. I can tell you from experience I envy your position. The biggest deer I've seen while traveling through Ohio were just on the out skirts of Columbus. I've also seen great deer in other cities. Take advantage of the contacts you have.

That's because you can't hunt them their (in the city). Lot of parks. Many deer. It's like that everywhere
Hey L.I.S.H.H. Doesn't matter much here, but I wouldn't show other hunters a map of where you plan to hunt. Just keep it in general terms. Other hunters are also not likley going to tell you where to hunt either. You have to get in there. The deer on that property would be going through, find the way they do it. Forget any lurers, the place is ripe with it from all the others. No calls either.Scent free, silent and good stand placementis the only way toget'r done. Here's one thing you can ask about. The roads around the place, find which one has the most car/deer accidents.

Worked for a family last year that have 2 boys living in Columbus. Saw a picture of a 16 point in the one brothers back yard. Off limits. Had a long conversation with him and he explained the situation (again, in the city). They is some good hunting every where starting there and heading east to the border. Hunted some of it myself. One area just over the hill is a dynamite spot.
