RE: Climbing Sticks/Strap On Ladders?

If you hunt mobile and move around alot, nothing beats the Lonewolf sticks. They are a little pricey at $90 a set but well worth the price. They fit right onto the back of the L.W. stands too making it a great system for the traveling hunter or one who switchs positions frequently. I am a little biased cause I am on the Lone Wolf pro-staff, But it is honestly the best set up I have ever used.

Here is a pick from my 2005 Iowa hunt that shows the sticks on the stand. 1st time sitting that spot, slipped up the sticks and stand and whacked a decent buck.

RE: Climbing Sticks/Strap On Ladders?

Hey guys, thanks for all the input. Out of all the steps mentioned/discussed, I am leaning toward the Summit Swiftree or the Lone Wolf steps. Reason being is I definately do not want to skimp on quality in the area of a stand or steps/ladder. I think the rapid rails are a nice concept too, just not sure about the weight and whether I need to stagger steps where I hunt. If anyone knows the distance between each step on the Swiftree and/or the Lone Wolf sticks, please let me know. I am kinda short legged and need some steps pretty close together. By the way, one set of steps not mentioned was the Summit Bucksteps. These look similar to the rapid rails setup. Has anyone tried these? Comments? I wish there was a sporting goods store with trees set up to try this equipment out before you buy. Guess it's too much of a liability thing though. Oh, well, any other suggestions will be appreciated. And thanks to each one who has already replied. By the way BloodBro, if I buy Lone Wolf, will I score a buck like that every time? Ha Ha Just kidding. Nice buck though.

Oh, and one other thing guys, some of you had listed prices you paid for certain sticks/steps and I checked their websites. A few of these prices are not very current. I found nothing under 39.00 at any site. Maybe someone could lead me to a good deal. Let me know.

Later, LT

FWIW, the swifttree is not as light and as quiet as rails or the lonewolf. If you take your time though you can assemble the sections quietly. I wish the lone wolf wasn't so sharp on the ends of the pegs...you could leave your manhood behind on one if you slipped.

With the Lone Wolf sticks, you can set the stick to stick hight where ever you want. Steps fold out either way, so there is no need to worry about staggering them. It only takes one quick strap to attach firmly. Becuase of the V-bracketts not being welded riged and being able to move independently, a ratchet is not necessary to get all four points of contact (No wobble). You can use them on crooked trees. you can fit them between limbs. You can put them on angles, or even put one end on one tree, the other on a limb or another tree. You can only take one, if you only need one, or only two etc. What ever it takes to get you to the limbs. They stack very nicly. Very easy to put up quickly and quietly. I slip into staging areas and set up stands for the evening hunts frequently within 100 yards of the bucks bedding area without spooking deer. That kind of hunting demands quiet set up. If you have time and get either the mens channel or the sportsmans channel check out our new TV show, Whitetail Addictions. Its 1st show is June 28th. The show features a bunch of hardcore regular guys useing lonewolf stands to score on some outragous whitetails. 4 booners this season alone. And with NO OUTFITTERS. You will likly get a very good look at the sticks in action. You can get a sneak peek at the intro to the video at the Whitetail addictions website http://www.lonewolftv.com/ One way or another you will probably end up with Lone Wolf, might as well skip the learning lesson:D

Check out the new Millenium 20ft sticks. I got mine on ebay for under $60.

Well I decided to try out the Summit SwiftTree and I believe I'll be satisfied with them. Really easy to set up and super light weight. I see what you mean Hardcore about having to be quiet though. I think I have a solution for that though. I'll fill you in after some experimenting. Not a bad price. I gave 59.00 at my local Sporting goods store. I have to say though Hardcore, that extra extension(1 Piece) is a rip-off. I mean 59 for the 17 ft. and 34 for a 5 ft extension. That just don't add up and ain't funny, I don't care who you are. Anyway, I'm gonna try these for a while, practice and hunt with them and see how it goes. By the way, thanks titleist, I'll check those Millenium sticks out. I will need at least 2 sets to hunt in my area, plus I have my Viper too. Thanks again for the replies.

I always drill holes through each section and place a clasp hinge pin (I think that is what they are called) so that the sections are held together. I do this with all my river's edge ladder stands too.
