Quieting cables on Summit Viper

Hey guys, I know a lot of you use a Summit Viper so I wonder if anyone has had any success with this. Mine is excellent stand. Wouldn't trade for anything. The only thing I dislike is the noise it makes when you insert the cable into tubing once it is wrapped around the tree. Always seems to make a little "clank" noise when I do this. It's not terribly loud but it irritates the crap out of me when I've been quiet as a mouse up until that point. Any suggestions or experiences with solving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, LT

Do you mean when the "knob" on the cable passes beyond the trigger and the trigger locks it in place?

I can usually manipulate the cable into the slot w/out making a great deal of noise or "clank". I just use both hands and guide the cable thru the big part of the slot and get it to where it fits the tree. I then pull the cable up to the small part of the slot while holding the trigger-ma-jig. Hope that makes sense. It usually works for me w/out making noise. Maybe try some moleskin.;)

No, not the cable lock. I keep it pulled down until the cable is in place. It's the knot or keeper (or whatever you call it) in the cable that hits the edges of the hole in the square tubing that makes the sound.

As you are climbing or at what point in time? I don't think I've ever experienced that with mine, but I've only got one season's worth of wear and tear on it.

Ducsauce, you hit the nail on the head. I tried to do it just like you are sayin. Maybe I'm just getting in to big of a hurry with it. I don't know exactly where I would put the moleskin.

LTK, I love my Summit viper too but have the same issue; that cable makes noise; I don't care who you are. I tried a Lone Wolf out at a sports store last night and you can't make that stand make a noise no matter what or how you install the cable(or whatever you call it on the LW). The only thing about the Summit is it is comfortable and the lone wolf just doesn't look all that comfy for an all dayer.

Is this something that happened to you guys over time or what, because I haven't experienced it, but I've only got one season of use on mine.

NEW FOR 2005:
The first climbers ever made that can be adjusted for tree diameter while climbing -- SAFELY!

Forrest "Tree Cat" ArcherI'm trying one of these out soon, it's a North Star. Bought it a month ago and told the kids to give it to me for fathers day. I have a summit (used it many seasons, older) comfy but noisy and doesn't pack all that well. Cables have always given me trouble.

NO IS, It is when you are installing the cables into the stand; even though they are coated with vinyl they still make a metallic noise unless you moved REAL slow and insert them carefully.
