RE: 2 Bucks in 1 week
I am not saying you guy's are paocher's my point is I don't tolerate it. You guy's do seem like your getting very defensive. Once again what is the nj. law for that zone. Also to Trock I don't care what you say about how you shot for meat in the freezer it was very poor decision on your part even if you don't like or want my opion. First YES if you could not even determine weather or not it was a buck or doe yes you could have been mistaken for what your target was you even said your self it was getting dark and it was in thick brush then to top it off you willingly take a poor shot which I might add you got dang lucky with the results and thats all it was LUCK. With all the people posting about how they can't find their deer here you could have easily been one of them! So YES what you did by your own words and no assumption on anyone's part WAS UNETHICAL. However congradulations on 2 nice bucks. By the way to whom ever it was that said that maybe the people who were upset about this talk more about hunting than they do shooting deer I am 23 years old with 17 bucks killed in 3 differnt states and I have killed a 9 piont and a doe this year so far. I am in no way bragging but I do pride myself on taking a good clean shot becouse I feel that I owe it to the animal. Part of the reason I get so upset about people paoching and doing unethical things while hunting is becouse one person's actions reflect on every single one of us. I sure as heck don't want some yahoo (not that anyone here is) giving the anti's any fuel to feed their fire.

RE: 2 Bucks in 1 week
6ptsika, sorry but you are wrong. I never assumed that Trock ever did anything wrong or illegal. I was asking a question. Here is the question that I asked.
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote<font size=1 face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Did you shoot an antlerless deer on Saturday the 26th or in the Morning of Monday the 28th prior to shooting that buck? <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' size=2 id=quote> To me that sounds like a question. I did assume (possibly wrongly) that all of NJ was "earn a buck." I don't have my regs guide handy so I can't check to be sure. If zone 25 is not "earn a buck" then great, I am truly happy for Trock. If you don't like what I did, too bad. I don't mean to be rude, but all I did was ask a question (I never accused) based on my interpretation of the law. Is it so wrong that one hunter wants to police another? I am a law abiding ethical hunter. Ethics can vary from one hunter to the next, but the law does not. I follow the laws and expect every other hunter to do the same or he/she has not earned the right to call themselves a hunter. I have been harder on friends of mine when they did things that they viewed as "bending the rules." We have enough pressure from the antis that to let illegal acts go without repurcussions in our own ranks would be self destructive. So next time you don't like me asking a question, think about why I am asking it before trying to criticize me for it. Edited by - huntingbry on 10/31/2002 20:37:50 |
RE: 2 Bucks in 1 week
From what I understand, zone 25 is covered by regulation set #6 (see link) which indicates that it is an "earn-a-buck" situation.
http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/pdf/2002/dighnt02.pdf That being said - they are 2 really nice bucks. I do hope that everything was on the up & up. "It's not the kill, it's the adventure and challenge! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>" |
RE: 2 Bucks in 1 week
Justin, thanks for the link. Here is the text from the NJ state fish and wildlife digest copied verbatim.
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote<font size=1 face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Regulation Set #6 Legal hunting hours: 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset ZONES: 15 & 25 Fall Bow—(24 days) Sept. 28–Oct. 25, 2002 Bag limit: Unlimited antlerless deer and ONE antlered deer may be taken during the fall bow season, regardless of the zone from which it is taken. Deer taken in other zones during the early fall bow season, September 7–27, count toward this bag limit. Permit Bow—(25 days) Oct. 26–Nov. 23 and Nov. 28–30, 2002 Bag limit: Unlimited antlerless deer and ONE antlered deer may be taken during the permit bow season, regardless of the number of permits purchased. Permit Muzzleloader—(45 days) Dec. 9–14, 2002—ANTLERLESS DEER ONLY Dec. 2, 3, 16,17, 21, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31, 2002 and Jan. 1–31, 2003 Unlimited antlerless deer and ONE antlered deer may be taken during the permit muzzleloader season, regardless of the number of permits purchased. Two deer may be taken at one time. Six-day Firearm—(6 days) Dec. 9–14, 2002 Bag limit: 2 antlered deer. Deer taken in other zones during the six-day firearm season count towards this bag limit. Once you have harvested your second buck during the six-day firearm season, your hunting must stop for this season. Permit Shotgun—(37 days) Nov. 25, 26, 27, 29, Dec. 9–14, 2002—ANTLERLESS DEER ONLY Dec. 18-20, 2002 and Jan. 4-31, 2003 Unlimited antlerless deer and ONE antlered deer may be taken during the permit shotgun season, regardless of the number of permits purchased. However, if 2 antlered deer were taken in the six-day firearm season, the permit shotgun season bag limit is unlimited antlerless deer. Two deer may be taken at one time. Winter Bow—(27 days) Jan. 1–31, 2003 Bag limit: Unlimited antlerless deer and ONE antlered deer may be taken during the winter bow season, regardless of the zone from which it is taken. Deer taken in other zones during the winter bow season count towards this bag limit. Reminder: Hunters must have a valid BUCK STUB whenever taking an antlered deer. Earn-A-Buck requirement ends after Dec. 14, 2002. Use the 2002 buck stub for permit shotgun and permit muzzleloader seasons which continue into January and February 2003. For the 2003 winter bow season, use the 2003 winter bow buck stub. <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' size=2 id=quote> So, the question still stands Trock. Did you harvest an antlerless deer on Saturday the 26th or Monday morning? Please answer the question so I can hopefully eat crow and congratulate you (again). 6ptsika, please get your facts straight before sticking up for someone and criticizing another. |
RE: 2 Bucks in 1 week
Huntingbry, you make this too eeasy, bud. Pleease don't get upset again, but you are very confused. Don't despair, the average guy needs a lawyer to understand the regs for this state.
Simply look at regulation set #5 and #7. You will see that these sets are labeled EarnABuck after the season heading. All reg sets mention that EAB will end 12/14. That in no way means the reg sets all have EAB. Look for yourself at set #7, it should clear it up for you. Once again, this gentleman had no requiremnt to shoot a doe first in zone 25. Yes, huntingbry, you asked that question, but you prefaced it by saying he neeeded to shoot a doe to be legal. Wrong. I'll go easy on ya bud, and leave it alone, with one parting thought. "please get your facts straight" Words to live by, huh? <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Grim reaper, as you gain expeerience, you'll realize it's very difficult to accurately judge others without having been there. Any deer was legal, he made a lethal shot on a deer, what's the problem? Jealousy is not well received on the board. Have fun beating this one to death, I'm heading to deer camp. "In heaven, even the fish have antlers" |
RE: 2 Bucks in 1 week
6ptsika, don't get too cocky, bud. If you read through the Regulation Sets you will realize that they only notate "Earn a buck" when there is special circumstances that are different than other zones. For example in the zone I hunt zone 14 it is notated that it is an "Earn a buck" zone even after December 14th, which is unusual. Also in the Regulation Set 7 that you mention it is "Earn a buck" for "Sept. 7-27, 2002 Only" which is why it is notated. If there was no "Earn a buck" regs for zone 25 why would they put the note at the end of the Regulation Set for that zone that says, "Reminder: Hunters must have a valid BUCK STUB whenever
taking an antlered deer. Earn-A-Buck requirement ends after Dec. 14, 2002. Use the 2002 buck stub for permit shotgun and permit muzzleloader seasons which continue into January and February 2003. For the 2003 winter bow season, use the 2003 winter bow buck stub." Sounds to me like you would need a buck stub until December 14, 2002 in that zone. You are right though, the regs can be difficult to interpret. Even if Trock said, "I thought it was a doe and the antlers were dark so I couldn't see them. I made a mistake" or "I didn't know my zone was earn a buck" or even better, "I shot a doe Saturday" I would have no problem with it. Scenario 1 and 2 are honest mistakes and scenario 3 is ideal. BTW, jealousy has nothing to do with this. I congratulate each and every hunter that I see posting about their success and I have already congratulated Trock. I just want to make sure everything is on the up and up. If we could get an answer this would all be done with. |
RE: 2 Bucks in 1 week
Huntingbry I agree with what you say so far I also have looked at nj. regulation per the link provided below and I also believe that his area is an earn a buck area but I will know for sure in a day or so also I have sent an e-mail to the NJ. fgw about this issue. I do however strongly disagree with you on one thing you said that you could understand if he shot the the deer by mistake well thats just as bad as flat out poaching a deer I know I have said it before on here but rule #1 when hunting absolutly positivly with out a doubt IDENTIFY YOUR TARGET BEFORE SHOOTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if he did shoot it by mistake it is still ILLEGAL. 6pointsika I never said trock was a poacher or that his deer was illegal but I am questioning what is going and I find it extreamly wierd that all the sudden trock and his friend Bowdaddy have gotten quiet when people started to question his actions. If someone here was questioning me like this I would try to prove that I was in no way wrong. Such as taking a pic of my tags for the bucks or simply explaining the law in his area. Trock I realy honestly hope that it was on the up and up.

RE: 2 Bucks in 1 week
Grim Reaper, I understand what you are saying, but I am just trying to give the benefit of the doubt. I really do hope that everything is legit and that my concerns are unfounded, but the sudden silence does bother me. Hopefully, there is a good honest explanation for all of this and it can be put to rest.
