Two days ago a buddy of mines caught a yound buck and a young doe trying to make it out on his trail camera. Is the normal for them to be rutting in May? Are the they practicing for the rut? Which ain't till November!!! When he send the pic I will add to this post.

Did the buck have last years antlers still? I don't think a buck that has lost it's antlers or is in velvet has enough testosterone to mate. Their testicles ascend and they are not producing. What state was it in? I don't believe the Alabama rut is in November is it? I thought it was in January? It's still late but not as much. Maybe it was just a dominance behavior and not sexual.

There just going thru the motions just like when your dog gets ahold of your leg. Its just instinct.

Accually what happened here is the deer in the back hurt his front legs and the deer in the front is helping him out. Moral of the story is you try to help and friend out and he tries to screw you.

Just a thought but that may not even be a buck. It could be a doe dominance thing just like dogs do. Pretty neat picture though regardless of what is going on. I guess it proves we all need to spend as much time as possible in the woods to figure this out.
