Whisker Biscuit vs. Bodoodle Zapper and other
Hi folks,
I've been a stranger to the forum for a while. My time now is consumed with hunting and my current assignment - day & night school (I'm an army major at the Command & Staff school getting my masters at the same time). Bottom line up front, I'd like some pros and cons of the Bodoodle Zapper vs. the Whisker biscuit, plus removing my metal nock loop (tru-Ball type, matched to my release.) and shooting off the string for my Jennings Carbon Master Xtreme. The last time I posted was about a recently installed altered (chopped for easier arrow insertion) Whisker Biscuit, and I must say, I'm not impressed. Ya'll warned me! I was happy at first, great groups and quiet, but the whiskers bent/degraded over time at those openings, giving me erratic performance (crappier groups, and not just me), so I replaced the biscuit with the real thing replacement, and noticed improved consistency. BUT...I have a tuning problem too, 'nuther story and I'm fixin' that. I have a Tru-Nok on the string, and my pro I talked to said it makes tuning difficult, so I'm considering deletion of that and releasing from the string. I'm a novice, just started bowhunting last year and have yet to get a bow kill...but confidence is everything. I've passed up some yearlings and does for the right shot, and I'm trying not to get too hyped for the first kill. I don't want to lose a deer. Once I start losing confidence in my ability to shoot 3in. groups at 20-25 yards, I'm screwed at the Moment of Truth, so change is required. I simply wanted a rest that wouldn't let the arrow fall off. Now I've screwed around with the bow, maybe too much. Any advice on the subject of rests and nock method? Thanks. --Dan Dan |

First thing I'd get rid of is the metal string loop. I've had more customers with trouble with them than they're worth.
Next forget the biscuit and go with a standard Bodoodle rest. I haven't tried the Zapper, but have great luck with the Pro Lite or Pro 500 from Bodoodle. Shoot thru rests can be tuned, but they can also be a pain. JMHO |

I love my bodoodle pro 500.

Get rid of the metal loop and tie on a string loop first thing. I am not sold on nor have I given up on the Whisker Biscuit just yet. a couple of experiences this year with differnt rests have me looking at it again. I still think it is a great rest, but takes a little more time to tune. I also trim both sides of the Biscuit and cut a notch in the top to allow easier arrow loading. After season I am going to do some more testing with differnt fletching configurations and arrows to see what works best with it.

RE: Whisker Biscuit vs. Bodoodle Zapper and other
There is absolutely no better rest then the whisker biscuit for holding your arrow, which is what your rest is doing for 99.999999999% of the time while hunting. Only at the moment of release does it lose it's advantages over other rests, and is the only time the rest's function isn't too hold the arrow. It certainly can be tuned to shoot good groups if you want to take the time, which makes it a no-brainer when choosing a rest for it's huntng attributes.

RE: Whisker Biscuit vs. Bodoodle Zapper and other
I SHOOT A STRING LOOP AND THE DROP TINE WHISKER BISCUIT. BOTH PERFORM VERY WELL. I DID SHOOT AT A SMALL BUCK EARLIER THIS SEASON AT 30 YDS AND NOTICED THAT AS THE ARROW LEFT THE BOW THERE WAS A AUDIBLE HSSSSSS. THE ARROW WENT IN FRONT OF THE DEER TO MAKE A CLEAN MISS, I FIRST CHALKED IT UP TO HUNTER ERROR. THEN THE FOLLOWING WEEK I READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE WHISKER AND IN IT HAD REPORTS OF THE FLETCHING TEARING AFTER REPEATED SHOTS THRU THE REST. SO I PULLED OUT THE ARROW AND SURE ENOUGH IT WAS TORN. THE ARTICLE SAID THE BEST REMEDY WAS TO APPLY A DAB OF GLUE TO THE FRONT EDGE OF THE FLETCHING TO REINFORCE THE BOND. NO MORE PROBLEMS SINCE. TIME WILL TELL.

I went to the WB last year because I hunt about 50% of the time from the ground in heavy cover. The obvious advantage is holding the arrow securely, either on the ground or when shooting at steep angles from the treestand. I killed a buck directly under my tree last year and couldn't have held on him with a conventional rest. I also use a metal loop and have had no problems with tuning. I practiced at 50 and 60 yards all summer getting ready for a Quebec caribou hunt and shot 5" 4-arrow groups from there with the setup.

I have used the WB for 2 years and it is a great rest except it destroys my fletching when practicing. I just ordered a Goldenkey shootout which has the same feature as the biscuit except there is no fletching contact. The shootout also has can be setup to load the arrow from the top or side which ever you chose.
